As for what you and Jane said, yes, it's completely normal to support your children with accrued wealth and it's completely normal to benefit from that as the children. It's not completely normal, however, to say stuff like "pssh, 4500 sq ft that ain't nuthin, our house is 9000 lol".

That's why I've been talking about learning some perspective. Of course, different cultures, starting points and gathered views make life a wholly different experience, but as Jane said, some actions and things more privileged people say are just straight fucked.
 
I don't think religious sacraments and the views on grandness of living can be compared that easily. I don't know, humility is a pretty important factor in life.

Big houses suck. I'm much happier with my parents summer cabin on Lake Champlain that could fit inside the kitchen of that place. Besides, this monster is in a gated community. Do not want.
 
AND I would just like to say that when I was really little we had less than average amount of money... I got my first real job at 14 working at McDonalds and have always pretty much had a job. Yeah my parents let me live in CO and I live comfortably and ski all the time... BUT, they cover 100% of my living costs if I'm in school full-time, and NOTHING if I'm not. I am so thankful and grateful and I would say maybe 30% of my real-life friends even know of my parents success. They are hard-working people and my mom is such a good person. I'm SO very very proud of them... but I am definitely not spoiled and certainly don't go out of my way to act like a rich bitch.

Also, this thread has turned into a shit show. :D
 
I didnt mean to hate on you or calling you spoiled, Ali, I apologize if it seemed like that.

I'm just hating in general on the view I feel many people have concerning consumption. I'm spoiled too, my parents have always given me the things I need and are also supporting me when I'm studying, so I'm very grateful for that. I just think houses this big is over doing it bigtime, and it makes me sick to think of that while big families live in one room apartments somewhere without heating others have multiple vacation houses they only spend a few days a year at.

we have a summer house too, it doesnt have an indoor toilet and the water come and go, haha, but I feel super privileged to have access to a haven like that, an escape from the city life.

Having money and nice things are like religion. You can have it and play with it all you want, that's cool but don't shove it it my face, and jam it down my throat.

Nice house though, I love the look of log "BC" style houses. I've actually seen a bunch of these pictures before and they were part of my inspiration for my house I designed in drafting. Will post pics if I can find any of the drawings and/or model.
