I tried to make a self timer for one of my cameras out of an old, very compact air pump, like one you'd use for a soccer ball or something. As the pump fell, it would hit the plunger on the cable release and trip the shutter. This whole contraption was supposed to sit on the side on an old flash bracket. The camera is 51 years old this year and its self timer is a little sticky, so that was my solution. It still doesn't work. I can't find a proper method to lower the pump without making it very heavy and therefore in need of it's own tripod. I tried rubber bands, but they force they exert gets too low as it nears the end of it's compression and wont push hard enough on the cable release. Gravity and weight works, but I need to put some wholes in the pump to make it fall easier. I'll post pics later, I'm gonna go skate.

Actually, pics now, so it did happen.
The silver plunger thing, that's the cable release. If you pull the blue part up it will slowly fall back down and hit the release thus creating a timer.
