OK, so i had to do some assignment for my integral calculus class, and i suck at that shit so i was rattled. i went on google and started typing random shit to see if i can find tips and hits and whatnot. then, out of the blue, i came across this site: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=integrate%281%2F%28%2816-25x%5E2%29%5E1%2F2%29%29

you put in any integral, and it's gonna solve it for you within seconds, show you a bunch of graphs, and even show you all the steps to integrate it. this site saved my life.

it does work quite well has its limitations but it shows you the route to the answers and alll the working goood stuff!
 
It is a huge help for really anything. I think that search engines like this are the ones of the future.
 
If you're using the Stewart text, I have .pdfs of the answer keys for almost all the chapters
 
dude you just literally might have saved me from failing calculus. I can check all of my answers for my assignment now!

I asked that thing what the answer to life, the universe and everything was, and it told me 42. That indeed solidifies it as a reputable source, it knows its shit. God, I love douglas adams.
 
Don't hold me to this, but...

8=2^3 and 32=2^5 so

2^3(2x-1)=2^5(3-x) take the log of each side you get

3(2x-1) = 2(3-x)

x = 9/8

It's been a while but I think I'm right.
 
shit eh, that seems about right. fuck, i just sent a PM to him telling him how to do it with logs and i got a different answer. i guess i fucked up
 
Yeah you're right. I did it quick and never check my work. That's why I hated math. I knew how to do the stupid stuff, but would always fuck up with making an 8 a 3 or some dumb shit like that.
 
unfortunately for you math runs your life and everything around you.

Pretty much any profession that does not use math is completely and utterly worthless, ya I said it.

 
i mean im ok with normal math. when we get into this shit, i lose it. my girlfriends a math major and i dont understand half of what she does haha
 
Holy fuck dude. When I took integral cal I used the basic Wolfram site that only gave the final answer. Between using that and getting people to do my weekly assignments I bombed the fuck out of every test/exam. I passed the course my second time through and it was a harder class so it's all good. But watch out with these kind of things, I know this one shows you the steps but it's risky to rely on Wolfram too much cause you might not actually learn the stuff.
 
reeeeeallly? ever think of the entertainment industry? film majors, editing majors, acting majors, etc...do you have favorite movies? if so then i'd say it's not an "utterly worthless" profession.
 
and then you realize the amount of math involved in that industry and you say "Oh shit, I am fucking moron, that cobra kid knows a thing or two."

ever think about color correction? that is pretty math heavy. Or audio balancing, to convey a location of speaker?

oh, damn, there is math in that industry. Not to mention all the angles and distances and proportions required to make the shot look good.

And if you want to get into the CG world, like so many of our movies are today, well that is pretty darn heavy in the math department.

You should try the thinking game one of these days. It might help you.
 
love the attitude, man. yes i thought about color correction and watched about 2 months of it go on and it is not math heavy. yes there are a few numbers but i wouldn't say math heavy. definitely in cinematography there's math. but editing there are very little numbers. and no equations. the industry has numbers in it duh but there's no way i'd say it involves much math. you pointed out 2 jobs in an industry that have some basic math in them with hundreds of different positions that have zero. hope you had fun being a dick but you didn't convince me I was a "fucking moron" and maybe you should try the not being a fucking asshole game one of these days. you probably won't do too well.
