For all you Northwest people

Because where is central and eastern? Is Okanagan county like Benton county? No. But it is "central."

Is Stevens county like Asotin county? No. But they are both "eastern."

You are getting too attached to little pussy shit like trees. There is nothing definitive about it. Just because some people live in a slightly more tolerable part of "eastern" washington doesn't necessitate "oh hey guys PLEASE DONT CONFUSE US WITH ALL THE MEXICANS IN HOT AND DRY CENTRAL WASHINGTON." The designation "eastern washington" may have some connotation of the aforementioned qualities to some, but who fucking cares? At least you have something that is definitive and profound enough to split the two (cascade crest. Same thing applies to Oregon).

And no, saying that is not like saying "anything east of the rockies is the eastern US" because, not surprisingly, you are neglecting scale. 1 state, 2 really basic climate/population attributes. A country with 50 states could necessitate far more. Duh. Southwest, mid west, New England, the South... simple recognizable designations. At least here a simple crest of mountains most people can understand.

dude there is a central washington university...if that doesn't convince you that central washington is a real and recognized region of washington, then i don't know what will.
2 basic climate attributes...how many times have we said there's wet, dry, and temperate?
when it comes down to it, the way the climates and geography of washington are distributed are really not so different from the the entire US. coastal and more wet on the west side, especially in the northern parts. more dry and boring in the middle (and the southwest and southeast to some degree), more temperate in the northeast. pretty similar to washington, don't you think?

Wait, is there wet, temperate, dry, and incredibly wet west of the crest?

CWU as proof? it is almost directly south of the center of the state. Of course you could say "this university is pretty much in the center of the state, hence it will be Central Washington University." Just because I'm saying western/eastern doesn't mean there aren't other ways to describe the states. But simple western/eastern WORKS.

To answer your other question: not really.

Southeast and eastern seaboard gets more rain than most places in washington, save for parts of the olympics and cascades. And that is just a for instance.

honestly what it really comes down to is that people from western washington can be very pretentious. they tend to think they're way better than anybody from east of the cascades, hence why anything east of the cascades is deemed eastern washington and is something to be avoided. a girl i know from high school in spokane goes to UW and says that whenever she tells people she's from spokane, they're just like "oh..." not saying everybody is like this, but i hear this kind of thing a lot. spokane has a very bad reputation among westerners from what i can tell, even though people i know from seattle are all exactly like people i know from spokane.
and it's too bad because we like westerners, you guys just don't like us.
but then again, we tend to think our region is much better than central washington, and that's not necessarily true either. i know some really cool people who live in wenatchee (for instance the wenatchee kendama team). so what i'm getting at is that central washington is very real in my opinion (and in the opinions of many), but apparently its existence is a matter of perspective. but i think we hate central washington because i feel like it's our way of saying 'hey seattle, we're not so different. don't confuse us with central washington.' so maybe you guys should just recognize the existence of central washington and we can all avoid it together

if you have driven from seattle to spokane there is a definitely line between central Washington and eastern washington. when you hit cheney you will instantly know your out of central Washington and into eastern Washington(the treeline). take the drive once and you will understand. until then you wont

no? was i implying there was? i mean i don't really know what the southwest of washington is like plus i don't really get what you're asking.
and that thing about the US climates was VERY general. obviously there are parts that get more rain, and the far northeast is way colder than the northeast of washington, but like i said it was just a general statement suggesting that my point wasn't so farfetched.

yeah. whenever i drive back from seattle it's always such a good feeling when you start to drive by trees again and you know that you're getting near spokane.
it's not really worth arguing anymore though because i think my point about perspective is pretty true. people from western washington look at it one way to make themselves feel better, we look at it another way to make ourselves feel better, and nothing can really change that. that said, i still think central WA exists

At any rate we shouldn't try to exclude Idaho from the PNW, because it's got better riding than WA or OR.

And let's not forget that some of the best ski areas in Washington and Oregon are east of the Cascades.

All I wanna say is that anything east of Mt. Adams can suck it! You are all wannabes. You do not exist in the Evergreen state vibe. Seattle is cool. And Vancouver fucking kills it. Haha Portland is sick two! Best mix of everything.

Spokane is weird. If I am that far east I might as well just say fuck it, and go to Montana where all the rad weather is. Spokane has snow yes....they have sun yes... but not very much rain. And you can't tell me otherwise cause you fucking have no GUTTERS!!! therefore you clearly don't have a rain problem. Which ust mean you do not exist in the northwest.

- were wannabes of what? if you mean westside kids, then get fucked. we arnt trying to imitate you my any means.

- vancouver isnt ever in washington...

- we get lighter snow and less rain, so were less washington...? no we just have better pow(except baker and stevens)

- my house and all my neighbors houses have gutters...

- we dont want a rain problem.

- and we clearly exist in the northwest, get a map.

humor me more?

i only live like 10 minutes from u. im down in fairwood right next to the country club on waikiki. i know the feelin.

north idaho is fucking baller, it can be PNW if it wants. Southern Idaho is shitty as fuck and can go fuck its self, that flat fuck

hmmmmmm let me rephrase that.

fuck south eastern idaho (I've never been to south western idaho or boise area so I cant judge you because I've never actually seen you)

Everyone needs to quit arguing over the most beautiful state in the US, can't we just love it for what it is?

duh
oregon.jpg

Oregon is rad too! You guys have great beer! And stripclubs. actually I went to jiggles and it was nasty. But still!

hey dont hate on rednecks haha

i grew up in north idaho and a lot of people up there that dropped outta school and what not are a helluva lot smarter than most people going to college getting liberal arts degrees

I heard a french man lives there...

Uh, Wenatchee is dope. So is the colombia river. Whoever says "Chelan" is a liar, Chelan is low and windy.
Wenatchee is the best place, boating in the summer, hitting urban in the winter.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love redneck people. I live in a town full of them. I'm probably more redneck than %80 of NS. But I'm just sayin, most of them don't work too hard in school and the ones that do all go to Central.

i assumed since you were talking up the westside of the state so much that you wouldnt bother talking up a shithole town in the south central part of our state. vancouver washington doesnt really fit into any context of your argument. vancouver ca seems logically like it was the city you were talking about

oh btw spokane weather is identical to western montana weather. missoula, bozemon, great falls, ect..

so unless your talking about the arid weather of eastern montana and billings(aka same as cental washington), your pretty much talking out of your ass.

just google mapped it, and vancouver is farther west than i remember it being, so southwestern part of the state*. nonetheless still not a town i wouldnt call awesome or amazing by any stretch of the imagination.
