For all you non-helmet wearers

true story. 2 years ago i was in a big air contest at my local hill. it was at night and the shit was pretty icy but i was going to attempt a corked 7 and the last thing i remember is getting to the lip of the jump and then waking up the next morning in the hospital. i made to 630 and my skis caught the landing and my head whip lashed against the ground. i was mercy flighted and spent 3 days in the hospital where i only remember some parts of. i suffered from head trauma which means my brain was bruised and bleeding. i could barely function, i couldnt walk at all until the 3rd day. after that i spent another 2 weeks out of school just laying on the couch watching tv. it was terrible and it sucked for my family too. my three brothers watched me do it and my oldest brother was the first to come look at me when i was laying in the snow with my eyes rolled back in my head seizuring. luckily i was wearing a helmet. it cracked in half but if i wasnt i probably wouldnt be here right now. so i would say its a good idea to wear one

I was watching out big air last year and a Kid went for a bub back and did close to the same thing. He over hucked smacked his head on the lip was instantly knocked out landed the 50 ft. jump sideways and started to have a seizure. It was sketchy as fuck.

jea man. the one day i didn't wear a helmet last year i was skiing switch and got whiplashed into an ice patch. not a good time

my helmet was broken and I almost didnt wear one but instead borrowed a friends siblings. I was ripping through the trees, fucked up and launched, flew head first straight into a tree and got the biggest headache I've ever head. never ever going without again

my coach used to not wear a helmet, then the one day he did he hit the deck of the pipe, and landed on his head at the bottom, if he hadnt been wearing a helmet that day he wouldve probably been unconcious

This winter I was taking a three meter drop from a cliff while I was whited out, and boom smack i whiplashed a big fat rock right in my face/forehead. Broke my nose. Thank god for helmets.

AND YEAH I KNOW IT WAS DUMB TO DROP THERE, BUT I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A OK LANDING DOWN THERE. It was just flat ground.. lol

you need a little lesson in badass 101, because everybody knows that all of the cool kids don't wear helmets.

yeah, if youre throwing stuff that can go wrong, wear a fucking helmet. i know a kid who throws all sorts of doubles, but refuses to wear a helmet. he also used a broken binding for much of last year. kinda ignorant if you ask me.

although i dont use a helmet for easy days. you know when youre feeling beat. throwing 3s, 1s, 5s etc on small kickers, easy rail tricks and so on or just for cruising around. i can safely say that i dont need a helmet when skiing around on slopes.

I just wear mine all the time, if you ask me it feels more comfortable. Plus, even if you think you are good enough to not need a helmet, the mountain is filled with kids that are not as good as you. My friend's grandpa died because some little kid cut him off and to avoid hitting him he turned, and he cracked his skull on a tree.

2 and a half years ago I was skiing down a run I had skied plenty of times before. Just cruising and having fun with friends. It was fairly steep though. (If you've been to mammoth - the paranoids)
30 seconds later I'm looking around wondering what happened. Finally think I'm ok, get up and end up falling over half hour later in the halfpipe.
Get home, finally go to the doctor. I sprained my neck and got a pretty serious concussion.
I compressed the all of the foam in the front of my helmet.... Apparently my forehead was the first thing to hit.

i know, nothing is safe. but then again i ski waay more aggressive with a helmet, especially on groomed tracks to or from the park. i know, its my fault, but in this sense its also more dangerous.

and after all, i would say i wear a helmet 95% of the times.

Used to wear a helmet tell it broke when I hit a tree..... went through puberty, grew a fat set of balls and just rock the beanie. Too dirty. They don't even require helmets at the comps at my local mountain. They know that men don't wear helmets

helmets have saved my life in all honesty 3 times cracked everyone but i still dont always wear one just depends

started with always wearing one for BMX and carried over into everything- plus my helmet is soo much warmer than a beanie

oh and working on park and pipe all 3 majors injuries we had this year were due to not wearing a helmet and having severe head trauma- two were life-flighted
wear your brain buckets broskis

I always wear my helmet. It makes me feel way more confident when I'm trying new stuff, and it's not like they're uncomfortable, so why not wear one?

experienced post concussion syndrome last winter making me miss almost the whole season.

i will never not wear a helmet

i always wear one. besides helmets are probably warm than hats, they can't get saturated with water and they protect you. And they keep your goggles attached to you if you fall so...

Yeah for sure. I've had some pretty hard knocks, some even with a helmet. Caught my tail coming in on a 7 and dug in hard. Straight whip to my dome. Broke the helmet in half. Who knows how much worse it could have been.

At this point even though I wear a helmet, I fucked my head up enough in different ways that they told me not even to participate in sports and def not shit like snowboarding. So I always wear a helmet now. I don't care if I look goofy. Actually pretty toasty inside and the headphones in the ear flaps never fall off on you.

i was about to go up the stairs to the cafeteria, i still had my helmet and goggles on, and i didn't look up, so i hit my head in the sharp edge of a scaffold of solid iron. i didn't hurt myself, but i felt that the impact was pretty hard, so i'm glad i had a helmet, because it would hurt like heeeeell if i wasn't

That's not necessarily true. You could have easily gone underneath it if you hadn't been wearing a helmet. Remember, helmets stick up pretty far.

one of the 2 days i didnt wear one last year, watched a friend double eject head first into a tree. scared the shit out of me. always wear helmets kids.

Helmets dont really prevent concussions, but it prevents your brains being smashed in. I love my helmet though, I cant ride without it.

Did you know there are no helmet standards? Its all self regulated.

i had a really nasty spill where i cracked my helmet and had a bad concussion (knocked out for an extended period of time, throwing up, completely messed up for months), and i'd hate to think where i'd be right now if i hadn't had it on. you just never know. shit doesn't even have to be your fault, and knowing that one mistake could be your last...... just seems silly to not err on the side of caution. plus, the set-up i had looked pretty styly, and helmets are really comfortable and warm, so what the hell.

fuck it im wearing a helmet at least 90% of this year i figure skiing is dangerous as it is then add substances and it gets a lot more dangerous. You got 1 life i dont believe in after life this is it. I hope to be an old man sitting in a lazy boy yeah i will be fucked up and not much life in me but i hope to make it to that day. so if putting an uncofortable even sometimes annoying object on my head im doing it

im a diehard helmet wearer on snow. kind of wishing i was for skating considering how hard i hit my head on pavement a few days ago and considering the headache i've still got... but nobody in skateboarding wears a helmet so i'd feel like a goof.

i have hit my head multiple times. none really that seriously. one maybe mild concussion from hooking a tip and getting flipped onto my head. but many of those would be concussions for sure if i didnt have a helmet and i

dont even want to think about the toll that repeated abuse would take on my brain. it would be near constant head weirdness. especially now that im about to learn inverts. shits about to get heavy and i like to be prepared

ive been racing and ate shit on numerous occasions. im sure it has saved my life countless times. its also warmer then a hat.
My brother has had it worse then me, and if he had not been wearing a helmet, i dont think he would be here either, hes been hospitalized so many times. man. WEAR HELMETS KIDS! if this thread doesn't stress it enough.
