Football progression

So today I was watching football like most people and thought of something. Most sports progress in some way or another, like in skiing with double flips and double grabs. Do you think the same kind of progression will happen in football? I wondered if someday quarterbacks would be able to throw good lengthy passes both left and right handed or maybe even throw curved passes. I think something along these lines will happen because the game can't stay the same way for ever.

most of the progression in football is in terms of different offensive and defensive schemes, formations, and plays. also, the general physical progression of the athletes, getting stronger, faster, and bigger. in a "manly" sport like football i don't think we'll ever see "gimmicks" like ambidextrous passers or curveballs.

anyone but me pictureing football players doing double flips right now?

But about the curving a football, i'm not sure if that would be possible without making it really hard to catch it. Just think of a bseball. To curve it you put spin on it, either to one of the sides or up or down. A football is thrown in a way that makes it spin (we all know how a football spins, right?) and adding spin in another direction too would probably mess up the pass pretty bad.

But i think plays and physics is/will progress(ing). People will find better way to attack, defend etc.

Dude...obviously you haven't seen the movie "Wanted" yet. I mean if they can curve bullets, I think a quarterback can curve a football. Pfft.

Football progresses all the time, look at what Miami has started this year in the NFL with the wildcat offense. Im just waiting for the Vikings to hit up an option offense with Tevaris Jackson and All Day.

speed and strength
its ridiculous that guys can be as big and as strong as they are, yet be as fast as they are

we're gonna start to see 4.7 speed on the offensive line as a standard

there will always be one guy who is faster than the last fastest guy, or stronger than the last strongest guy. but i think that football has tons of progression. the progression of how good kickers are will also determine what situations and how long of field goals they will be used for too. definitely new offenses will develop but i think defense will stay the same, nothing crazy there because defense is played mostly by instinct.

wildcat offense is actually old as hell, just with a different name. but it was definitely progressive to bring it back, i agree with you.

an option based offense will never work in the nfl. defenses are too fast and would catch on too quickly. sure it works every once in a while, like vick used to do w/ dunn, but it will never be as affective as it is for, say, florida, which with harvin at halfback and tebow as QB are impossible to stop

definitly,

There was a time that the forward pass was a novelty play. Now theres guys like manning, favre, and brady that can hit anyone anywhere on the field. Rules are changing, players are getting bigger, better, faster, the equiptment is changing, everything.

the players aren't even human beings any more, they're athletic freaks. training methods and "legal" supplements will keep getting better, and these guys will keep getting bigger, faster, and stronger. schemes will evolve, equipment will get safer, but football will ALWAYS come down to BLOCKING AND TACKLING

Indeed, I think most of all it comes down to discipline. The option relies on the defense getting out of position just as much as it does the ball carrier making people miss. The level of discipline in the NFL is to unreal.

The NFL is always progressing, It used to be all about running the ball and run defense, but now its all about passing and blitzes on defense. Teams like the 86 bears dont exist anymore. Now you have Brady Moss, Peyton Harrison, etc. As well as Osi, Tuck, Freeney Mathis, etc.
