what are some good foods that wont make you cramp that you can eat on the way to/before practice? I am a rower and today we have this thing that is 20 minutes long and basically we see how far we can go on an ergometer (a rowing machine). it uses basically all of your body but i get cramps sometimes in my abdomen/stomach area and need food to help stop that. any ideas?

pizza, burgers, pasta. What evers in the fridge or what ever fast food place i stop at along the way. I never get cramps or anything like taht. Apparently the docters tell be its becuase i have a excelled matoblism. Apparently its 4 times the average

i always used to get cramps in soccer. as i become more fit, i get less cramps and can eat later. so this is what i recommend:

-dont eat within 2.5 hours of activity

-drink plenty of fluids but try not to within 1.5 hours of activity

-eat bananas or grapes, you can eat a banana within the 2 hour zone and be fine.

those are just things that work for me

one kid at my highschool swore by steak and cheese subs. heh. are you gettin like muscle cramps in your abs or a stomach cramp? as nasty as they are you could always go with clif bars and stuff like that. water n gatorade of course. Nuts are good for energy too I find like almonds or cashews or whatever.

You can eat anything up to an hour and a half. 2 1/2 hours is way longer than you need to wait. It usually takes 45-60 mins to digest food.

haha. i have vowed never to go on an erg again. i hate them. so boring. no matter how hard i row i dont go anywhere!

watered down gatorade and a nutri-grain bar, i can have like 4 or 5 sometimes before a hard workout without it bothering me, but try 1 or 2 at first

alot of times cramps are caused by a build up of waste.. (constipation). i went to my doctor and talked about it.. this is what i reccomend:

a) talk to your doctor (it actually helps)

b) you will NOT want to do this.. but go get a take home enama kit (i had to do it in a hospital), trust me.. is gross, but it works. it boils down to how bad you want to fix your problem. AFter you clean yourself out, go on a hard core fiber diet. I eat metamucil every day (cookies) but you can also get pills and flaxceed oils and stuff.. but i always got cramps like bad.. and i dont at all anymore.. So if you want to get it fixed, take an enama, and get crackin on some fiber.

well potassium is more like a day before or two days, similar deal with carbs and pasta.

make sure you stay away from fatty foods such as butter, cream cheese, or anything fat and greasy, it will cause cramps

another thing that is good is to cut gfatorade 50/50 with water since gatorade is a post activity drink designed for recovery.

I reccomend Nature Valley Bars before activities or other dry grainy type foods.

message me if you got any questions, i have this stuff down pretty well, i have been a distance runner for 6 years and i make sure i eat well cuz i hate the consequences, also different things work for different people

wen i have a one day soccer tournament i ususally just eat like a plain bagel and water or apple juice or something in between wen im hungry

drink 1/2 water 1/2 gatorade for the cramps- teryre caused by dehydration. as for food that sits in the stomach good, try eating cereal, but with yogurt instead of milk. i cross-country ski and this works wonders. also oatmeal works well. and bananas, cliff bars, peanut butter on everything, and bananas.

i eat those nature valley granola bars before i row or erg usually. just carbs otherwise. but i make it a rule to try and not eat anything within 2 hours of a race and then just drink gatorade or something with sugar for energy.

and good luck on that... i feel your pain i have a 2k on tuesday.

here's what i scarf down during preseason.

--bananas-give you sooo much energy

--peanut butter-it really keeps you full but doesnt actually fill you up enough to make you feel sick.

--watered down gatorade/powerade

--eggs and toast. Not too much of it. Like two eggs scrambled and a piece of toast isnt too much but its still really energizing

I'm skeptical that bananas are better than any other fruit in this case bcause it sounds like you're getting stomach cramps and potassium I'm pretty sure is for muscle cramps so that wont really do you much good. It'll still be ok just cuz it's soft and small so it wont take long to digest. nature valley bars are fuckin delcious
