i spend a couple of hours every month helping out at my local food shelf. thats the kind of charity ide like to see propagated more often, instead of turning to the hand of government. although it may seem as though i wouldnt want to help those with less than i have the exact opposite is true. i do help those less fortunate. (although i dont know how i feel about using the word fortunate, but whatever)

i do agree the way its allocated is totally fucked the people that are actually trying to better their situation get the shaft, believe me ive seen that. my family does foster care and thats a recurring theme. mothers on the dole because even if they got the most minuscule job their benefits would be slashed. ide rather see them get more for working a job and making an effort to be self sufficient.

my life is a product of my work. the roof over my head is a product of my fathers work, and everything i own was a product of work. the vast vast vast majority of it being my work. i was working 20+ hours a week before i could drive. every job ive EVER held i secured by my own volition. my parents made no calls, no inside connections, nothing. i applied just like every other stiff, and ive beat many of my competitors out. ive worked every hour of the day. how many NSers can say they have shoveled snow for 10 hours straight starting at 11pm? how many have baled hay all day producing 600 bales? ide really like to know how many have even worked a 40+ hour work week? cause i know for a fact that a sizable portion of welfare recipients dont. (i read it in my uber liberal sociology book, if you want ill find you the exact statistic tomorrow)

once again, i have absolutely no problem helping people, but ill do it on my own terms, i do not take kindly to having my hard earned money expropriated from me only to have it go to someone on NS who then creates a thread asking what kind of extravagant food he should buy.

i know im a cold hearted basterd, feel free to call me one ;)
 
yeah, I didn't say this, Ben Franklin did, but again, I totally agree with that sentiment. So Ben and I are both full of bullshit. It's hard to let rationality get in the way of pity, but you should learn sometime. It's more productive in the long run. Pitying people doesn't help them at all, it just makes them feel more burdened/sorry for themselves.
 
My question is how did you qualify with going to college? I've known kids at my school applied for food stamps and got denied because they go to school. If you are paying for school you shouldn't need food stamps.
 
you sick son of a bitch hahah. I've done a lot of all-night shoveling, never bailed hay though. I have family in upstate NY that own a farm and they work all day and into the night. It is crazy how much these people do, I have never seen a more hard working set of individuals in my life. It seems like they never get two seconds to relax.

I get where you're coming from, once you have everything established it get cheaper I guess but if you buy everything from spices to salt every time you cook I can see it being pretty similar in terms of cost.
Wouldn't you have to submit a resume anyways though, especially if you're applying for a foods related position in a restaurant or something? I mean I can see Mcdicks having online applications but I would think any respectable establishment would ask you to show them a resume or something.

you moron, Franklin was speaking specifically about the poor in France. that was his panacea for french poverty.
 
didnt mean to call you a moron. The fact the you knew Franklin was a francophile means you have some basic knowledge. But Franklin developed his theories on welfare by examining poverty in other countries, specifically France. He saw that welfare programs over there were only keeping the people in poverty.

I was on food stamps a few years ago, it was so nice, between me and the gf we would get ~$250/month. Then when I went in to reapply they denied me. Minority bitches up in the food stamp office are incredibly racist, making whites jump though so many hoops, but if a Mexican or black comes in(19 out of 20 people there) they get shuffled right through. I was in college, paying for my own apartment, had a crappy job. Every time I was at the store I'd see someone buy a bunch of food with their Quest card, then whip out a fat roll of cash to buy cigarettes and shit that doesn't qualify. So fuck it, might as well join em.

OP, if you have any take and bake pizza places near you they usually take stamps, Papa Murphys does. I only know from HS experience working there, never actually bought a pizza with the card. The best thing at the grochery store are frozen dinners in a bag, with pasta, meat, and veggies.

I love all the kids in here bitching like mommy doesn't cook every meal for them, like they even have jobs that put them in a tax bracket worth complaining about. Haha faggots. tell your parents I said thanks for 6 months of free food. Also as a home owner I'm still waiting for some gratitude in regards to your education, nearly half of all property tax revenue is used for public education. Like I give a fuck if you have a school to sit in and screw around at.

Whilst the original titles a little fucked up, this is the point of food stamps. I am glad my tax dollars are helping out a fellow NS in need. Granted the crazy liberals don't need to spend anymore of our imaginary money on these programs. Due to the fact this country is BANKRUPT. Would someone let Obama know for me cause he obviously has his head up his ass.
 
Educate myself, promise me I am in the know, I am working amongst some of the most knowledgeable gentlemen on Wall street. I will example our current economic situation from a financial point of view. Right now our USA is out of money, our debt which at one point was a popular piece of paper coveted by the Chinese, is now worth just as much as a piece of 2 ply toilet tissue. The Asians have no use for it as we continue to devalue it. Our current administrations plan to print dollar bills in-order to pay for programs just pushes us further and further into debt. Granted its not all Obama's fault, Bush was a bit liberal with the old spending pen as well. But Obama's done nothing but demand more spending programs and devalue our currency. So my question to you is how do we fund all these programs? The money just isn't there. Its a dog eat dog world, when money is tight someone needs to pull the belt in a bit to get us back on the right track.

Basically the Chinese government has been ordering the sale of US debt. This is because they are not getting the desired returns and they do not believe Obama has the self restraint to keep his hand out of the cookie jar. It is important to note that the Chinese will not sell all our debt. They can not afford for us to have another recession, they rely on our consumption of their goods. The Japanese hold our debt for safety, US t-bills are safe investments. Heres the diamond in the ruff, the Chinese need to put their money into alternative investments. So all you NS who are looking to make some money keep buying Commodities. They are the PAST, PRESENT, and FUTURE.

All politics and food stamp bashing aside, just make your own food to save money.

Don't buy frozen bags of pasta and meat or frozen pizzas. A frozen pizza is like 6 bucks, you can get two pre-made doughs sauce and cheese all for 6 bucks. Buy chicken breasts or ground beef and some veggies with a bag of dry rice.

Learn how to boil your own water and brown your own meat, this shit isn't rocket science. That is how your gonna save money at the grocery store. Also, clip coupons.

My gf and I eat very well and healthy, we always have a stocked fridge. All for around 200 to 250 a month.

Find a local produce stand in the summer.
 
Definitely got a point. Its not too hard to do alot with a little. All you need is a pot, some heat and a few bucks(which is the purpose of food stamps, given everyone a nudge in the right direction).
 
No you need to shut the fuck up. Don't come on Newschoolers "bragging" about food stamps and what delicious food you should get you fuck! People who go on food stamps usually don't want people to know they are actually on food stamps.

yeah this isnt exactly a novel idea but its worth stressing, my roomies and i eat pretty well (granted, our parents help us with food money) by just buying ground beef, pasta and stuff, then making different combos all the time

Please don't post in threads when you haven't read any other posts, especially ones from the OP...its a pet peeve of mine. I've explained my situation numerous times. I know that I truly need this help b/c of my situation and that I'm not abusing the system. Your opinion matters very little to me b/c you have no idea who I am or what my situation is. If you want to make some meal suggestions that'd be fine though.

where did he say he didnt need it? This year i have had 4 diff friends drop out of uni/college because they couldnt afford it. Agreed that most people in uni can afford uni but what would you rather do....dig outta your loan for food money and pay back all that bullshit interest when you are older....or get money to eat so you can afford to go to uni and pay for necessities?

Basically what I'm sayin is everyone attacking him should slow the fuck down. And to anyone that hasnt been in uni/college yet...... stfu if you wanna lip (not directed to delphi btw just to people in general)

Ha yeah i prolly shoulda worded it different, but there is a alot of excess money from prior months after I had applied but not recieved the card yet. I was really just looking for some good meal ideas that don't necissarily need to have a set budget in mind.
 
Hey I read your post it looks like your using it for good. And who care how you worded it if I just got money to spend on food I would be so happy too.
For a really good meal that doesnt cost alot but is uber dank is mac and cheese. But use real heavy cream and get some good cheeses. It taste so good and its pretty cheap and packs alot of energy. Some likes i like to dice up shrimp make it spicy and lightly pan fry it.

just fyi.. people will hate me for saying this.. you can go to brewery stores in oregon . and use your oregon trail card to purchice all the raw ingredents to make beer your self.. and i have done it.
