focused sucked

Haven't seen focused but somehow I'm not surprised by what I'm hearing. I agree with the dude who tried to make a case for how MSP is going for a somewhat more cinematic effect and want to get away from the ski porn style of PBP but I think the bottom line here is that most of us aren't that interested in an artsy ski flick. Furthermore many of us are looking for 30-45 minute flicks that keep us on the edge of our seats and make us want to watch them over and over again. Even shortening your movies to 60 minutes isn't going to be enough if it still consists largly of dot's crusing down the mountain over and over again, esp. if the music puts you to sleep. As for those who ripped on Morrison I don't really blame you, no doubt in my mind that he's a mind blowing skier and all that but if he has the exact same style year in and year out people are bound to get tired of watching him. He's nuts, we get it, he just needs to switch up his style from time to time.

Sick Sense was a truly great ski movie with a laid back sublime type feel. Then they switched it up a little more hardcore with a Metallica/ style soundtrack in Global Storming. Great Video also. Then SM1 was pretty good. SM2 sucked. SM3 sucked. They are OK, but I expect more from MSP because they have placed themselves at the top of the big mountian ski film pack in the past. If I wanted a artsy/slow ski film, I might as well go get the new Warren Miller shit, and have that put me to sleep instead! Things like the crazy boat trip into Bella Coola, fuck it, let me read that in Powder. I dont want to see it over and over again in a video. And the humor is starting to suck also. PBP is cutting edge and killing it, because they market the video style, music, and format to the people who they know best. TGR has improved in my opinion also because they creativly try different things each year. I like that and hope that soon MSP sends Gaffney on his way, (he is great solo), and returns to the format that got them where they are, quality ski porn!

yeah Scott Gaffney is money

Yeah, i just saw focus in the bellingham premiere so I figured id bring this thread back to life. Yeah, Im gonna have to agree with CJ somewhat that this movie wasnt that great. I guess it was a step in the right direction, just not a success. It seems like they are tryign to be TGR, and failing if you ask me. Cause i like TGR movies so dont go callin me a park rat or anything. The skiing was good however, not as great as it could be i think. For the most part it seems like most of the skiers could have a lot better segments. Basically it was kinda boring.

I was in awe almost the whole time. Focused was awesome. MSP killed it this year.

Just watched it at the Bham premeire, and while there was some prety sweet stuff, most notably, peps segemnt, and Sahens. You have to give them props for some of the best helemt cam footage that has ever been filmed. But over all the movie didnt really stoked me out this year. Mostly, because it didnt show too much progression, and while they did have some prety tech camera techniques going on, I for one am sick of the standard angels that tehy used. Given the budget that MSP has to work with, they flat out dropped the ball on this one. Give me what they spend in a week, hell give me what they spend in a day, and Ill guarenty, Theory-3 could do better than thsi years MSP flick. Or you can by FOCUS, and see for your self.

maybe everyone is so desensitized that cool sick shit doesnt seem as impressive any more. i havn't seen it yet, but i'm sure it's still good. shit, i'll watch anything with skiing.

I like to ski the lovely pow we get here in CO. mmmmm......skiing.......i havent seen focused yet, but it seems like the same as SM3, but that doesnt make it bad, they are shooting films, thats what they love to do....mmmmmmm.....51 days until skiing....

CO is where its at bitches

sorry to dissagree with some ppl here but MSP does make some really sick movies and I would have to say that SM3 was sick, Cr's segment was so dope, I liked Tanners too and of course Seth's. To the kid who said that rob zombie shouldnt be in the movie, wtf is there certain types of songs made for skiing? no i didnt thikn so... I am still gonna buy this movie no matter what anyone says//

What the hell were they doing with a car on the moon?... havent they gone far enough?

leave everyone to their own opinion.. and whatever the dude on the last post of last page said, i disagree, i can watch shawshank redemption 100 times in a row, that movie is wicked awesome. i think what everyone needs these days is something that stands out above all, something different and something more then just tricks... like afterbang for snowboarding, or yeah right for skating...

HAha, McKeeman! You were rowdy! The movie was rad. I wish it had a better intro though. The past 3 all had really well done intros that made you want to see skiing really bad, but this one didn't. 13 already did the whole 'riders crashing as an intro thing'. Like SM3 when Pep turns and say 'are you scared?' the its that Rob Zombie song and all this ast pace stuff that gets you stoked, and they had a wide range of music. It did seem too artsy. The skiers definately did not lack though in any way. Hugo killed it, Pep was sick, Turpin, Abma etc were amazing and Bushfiled and McMurray were sick. It was a good movie, but I just wasn't as 'I gotta ski now' as I was after the premieres for the first 3.

i liked the movie i thought it was sick, the backcountry was great and what about sliding rails in the Bronx even if you didnt like the movie you had to admit that was crazy, the camera angles where crazy (the halfpipe cam) hugo harrison is a beast those cliffs where incredible, and seth i have to admit that that rodeo was pretty cool its awesome that he is still mixing it up, i was a little disapointed that the max spin was a 7 over that huge gap and to many crok 5's and big 180's, steeles segment was good, but mcconkey man that was amazing, over all i thought the movie was good but lacked a little mike douglas and tanner hall

best pick up line ever: hey baby where both your parents retarded? because you are one very special girl

They had a ripcord thing that the cameraman slid down on. It is visible once in awhile, you can see the shadow. I think the movie was amazing. It was not the average video, it was more of a film makers approach to skiing. It helps peopel to appreciate how beautiful skiing can be. The slow music helped with the vibe, for onc the movie was about style, not how many tricks a rider could get into a segment. It really showcased the skiers and was super personal. It was nice for a change.

Dont waste that shit

Is it just me or does this happen every year to MSP flicks?

The more you watch them the more you appreciate them. People always hang shit on them initially but a lot back off after a while.

To those who say big mountain is repetitive, the lines are never the same and there's a lot more variety than in some gimp hitting the same booter 8 times and doing 8 different variations of a 720.
