Any ideas on how i could make one and where i can find those foamblocks or a substitute?

Foam pits = Hard to maintain, build properly and very fucking expensive. The foam blocks alone are $1 each, but it adds up big time when you need to buy 1000 of them.

Foam blocks = 1$ each, It would take around 3000-4000 6"x6" blocks to fill a 6hx12lx12w pit, you do the math. And still, that size pit is no where near big enough for anything. Plus, the cost of building the actual pit. Thats alot of cash to just have hanging around.

Here's what i did one day since i don't have a trampoline. It wasn't with skis, but u could do it with skis. I just got a bunch of old mattresses, and put them on the bottom and then pilled a whole shitload of blankets and pillows on top, and it works amazing. its not as low impact as a real foam pit, but u can land in it any way without getting hurt, except landing on ur head.

you could get those foam mattreses and then pile them up then at the top cut them up a little then you have yourself a foam pit.

Occasionally I have seen foam blocks on craigslist. They were from a gymnastics place and selling for pretty reasonable. Only problem was getting the blocks ( estimated 4 enclosed snowmobile trailer loads) building a water proof/ animal proof box, and having a location to put an in-run and a trampoline next to it. The blocks were going to be the cheapest part...

foampit idea got scrapped, because it was too expensive, a lot of work, multiple problems such as water in your pit etc the result would've been really disappointing i believe...
so now my new project is gardenshed -> drop-in tower (3-4m heigt; +-12ft) and not with a flat rail/box but with a down rail at around 1m height (+3ft)...
thanks for all the input and ideas !

I know this thread is quite old but I just thought I will share my thoughts on a set up that sould solve most of these problems.. I think..

What about a great big inflatable air matress type of deal? Ye' know the 50 ft by 50 ft heavyduty type of material that is inflated to a point not too highly that it is to hard to land on but, has some sort of minimal pressure release so that it stays the right pressure to have a soft landing. Ive seen one of these before and they would be easy to atore and easy to set up.

This is what im talking about. Immagine one in your backyard? I dont know what the cost would be but.. ye know, waay cheaper than a foam pit for sure.

Great thought, but I don't see anyone selling one to the GP. There are too many ways that someone could get seriously hurt. I am planning on adding one when I get Huck and Splash up and running. Mine will be a dry land set up with a jump and landing built like a step over.

I was speaking to a guy who builds these things about 10 years ago. He was a retired stunt man. I laid out my idea of using one for a ski landing hill. He was very concerned about people getting injured going head first into the bag. He said that stuntmen have been paralyzed that way.

The safest way I have seen these set up is laying them down on a landing hill. You would have to have a huge back yard with natural terrain and you would also have to spend a ton to create a long steep dry slope drop in. Not trying to burst your bubble, but the quickest way for you to get access to this is for me to successfully prove that I can get gapers to jump into this without hurting themselves. That way I can build multiple locations.

Yeah, I see what you are getting at.

So this Huck and splash thing you are getting at, is this some sort of dryslope terrain park into a pool kinda set up / business you plan on designing/ building?

Sorry for delayed response but yes. I will be opening up the first one in Denver. That will be the proving ground and then I can open other locations around the US. I will be creating the best possible simulation of terrain park hits into water landing. Progression would then move to air bag landing set on stepover style jumps.
