back when i skated and went to woodward every summer i sessioned those foam pits and they were the coolest thing ever.

as fun as foam pits are i think that air bags are better. foam pits are a little softer, but air bags are cheaper, more portable, occupy a larger area more easily and are a better platform to stomp on.

 
when my friend went ot woodward for skatin, he didnt use the foam pit the whole time. he just learned sick grinds and such. like 540, off rails and cool stuff. dunno. id like to see one though.

plywood is about 20$ a sheet if you look for it, 2x4's are about $3.50 (prices relevant to central new york). then on top of that you need foam which believe it or not, is quite expensive. I was looking into making one as i have five pole vaulting mats but i decided to stick with just the mats, its fun

wood is really expensive right now. for a real pit of decent size (20x20) the wood alone to hold it together would be 2-3 g's but if you could find some cheap source of foam or peanuts or something it has a chance of being somewhat cheap overall.

don't worry about the price of foam because you have to use air bags or mcdonalds playpen balls for rain purposes. Rain on foam would be ranker than you can handle, and then the creatures start living in there, you need to be able to hose it off. Find a mcdonalds that's is being redecorated (all of em in my area are turning into cafe's or some shit and take their balls and netting? Put drain holes in the bottom or else yeah

I more than likely wouldnt use plywood. For how long it lasts, and how quickly it looks shitty, its far to expensive.

I'm more the type to spend the money once and do it right. SO i'd probably go with High Density polyethelene. This things going to be indoors, so between that and the fact that I;d have to build it thinking of a lot of goobers, I wouldnt do the air bag thing.

yea that WOULD be pretty sick... a foam pit for skiing... but you already have waterramps but this way you wouldnt have to get wet... but it would hurt more if you landed on your head

i've done dives off of a vert ramp into a foam pit and it didnt hurt. i dont think everyone understands how big these foam pits need to be. to the person who said 6 sheets of plywood...yeah right. since a sheet is 4x8, it would be 8ft wide, 16 ft long, and only 4 feet deep. you have to be a pretty accurate jumper to hit that target after a big air. the pits need to be atleast 8-10 feet deep. the one at woodward was prolly 30-40 (?) ft wide and like a hundred feet long. good luck with that
