Flying with your camera

do you guys usually bring your cameras through carry on with you? I'm flying out to west in a few days and I want to bring my camera with me, but i'll also be carrying on my laptop and my boots. should I just pack it away in my non carry on?

i would not check my SLR, maybe if i had it in a hard case, but i would carry it on

definitely carry-on. if you see the way they handle checked luggage, you definitely dont want your cam in there, no matter how padded it is.

also, if its in your carry-on, the airline can't lose it.

Carry it on. Also, give yourself some extra time going through security especially if you have a lot of gear. Sometimes you can just put the bag through, sometimes you have to take out every single thing. Just a heads up.

Boots, Camera and Laptop always come onboard with me, can't risk them loosing it. Put the camera and the laptop together in a backpack because they won't let you do laptop case, camera case and boots all separate.

im actually goin out west too to Montana on saturday also...im taking my hv30 and fisheye. d60 and 3 other lenses and my flash in my carry on.

just got back from tahoe and i took it carry on for sure, i don't think you realize how badly they treat checked luggage, it could get lost or broken

^word to all of that. thanks y'all. I'm gonna go laptop/camera(inbag) inside my carry on napsack & then boots on my shoulder loose and check-in my duffle with clothing and skiing gear. see any of y'all at alta/bird/brighton/solitude all next week yo!

truth... last time I went through to Vancouver they were actually making me take pictures and change the lenses and shit. sooo ridiculous

they almost detained me for having an avalanche transceiver in my bag. they asked me if it was boot heaters and i kept saying no so they thought i was being vague and i had to show them what a mammut pulse was online and that it is used for locating someone in a slide and everything

didn't give me shit for the camera though
