Flying on a plane with ski gear.

Hey guys so I'm heading out to Utah to look at the university of Utah and ski at Snowbird. I'm flying out with Delta airlines and it's called a hidden city flight where I fly out of Nj and it stops at Utah and ends in Washington, but I'm getting off at Park City so I can't check any bags because it would end up in Washington. I want to bring my boots and I'm allowed to bring one bag and another personal item. I was just wondering how I can pack my boots as a carry on or if I would be able to just put the booster straps together and throw em' over my shoulder. Just wondering what you guys do.

I've seen people do it on intntl flights. Wear em for check in, and take them off for customs and the flight.
 
Don't rent boots carrying your own on the plane is no big deal at all.

I have carried my boots on for every flight I have taken in the last 5 years. All you gotta do is get a backpack and buckle them on the outside, you can then buckle your helmet to the boot straps, and buckle your goggle bag and put it inside the helmet. Stuff ski socks or whatever you want in the boots and you will be good to go.

Usually so I don't look like an asshole I keep the boots and helmet in the overhead and then just put the bag at my feet, nobody has ever had a single problem.

They are heavy af to lug around though not gonna lie.
 
You get a carry on and a personal item. Boots should either fit in your carry on (easily) or you can just hold them and bring them on.

i just did this to whistler and carried my transpack bag as my carry on. they didnt question it at all. fit in the overhead just fine and it carried my boots, helmet, goggles, etc..

I'm leaving this Friday and will be unable to buy one of these. Should I try to fit my boots in a gym bag of some sort?

I mean you could....but it's pointless. Just throw them over your shoulders and put them in the overhead.
 
I flew delta to australia to ski, nobody gives a shit about your boots. bring your boot bag and carry your boots on put your clothes and shit in boot bag. done. put shit IN your boots too, saves space.
 
try to put as much of your ski gear as possible in your overhead compartment and carry on. then if they lose your luggage you can still rent some skis and still ski without delay.
 
if you bring your boots on the plane make sure they don't smell like rotten eggs because that's unpleasant for everyone.

I can fit my boots in a regular reusable grocery bag. Makes it easier on my hands. Never had a problem carrying on that and also a small backpack.

You won't get the smell on anyone unless they touch your stinky liners. IMO People should know better than to touch anyone's boots.
 
I carried on a compression sack with outerwear and clothes while carrying on boots helmet and goggles attached to the compression sack.
 
Invest in a racer ski bag. Usually pretty big. It fits everything, boots, helmet, goggles, mitains, snowpants, whatever you can think of. Just be carefully while entering the plane though, with the narrow rows, I kinda hit some people with my boot by accident

Not sure why this got downvoted.....I have never had an issue with my transpack being a carry-on. It make take a few seconds to get it to fit in the overhead but I have been allowed to bring one every time, and planned on it for Japan in two weeks as well.
