Sea to sky from Vancouver to whistler is closed until sunday or monday at the earliest.

Road from Whistler to Pemberton is closed aswell because of the bridge that got washed away. Expected time for that to get fixed is a few days.

Best of luck to anyone on evacuation right now.

All of a sudden I'm super stoked that my house is still ok...good luck to everyone who isn't doing so well with the floods and all.

Anyone else find it weird that BC was in drought-mode a month ago, and that we're now in flood-mode? This province, weather-wise, is FUCKED.

Last Week I went to Outdoor school Camp with my grade.My teacher was in a Field talking to his Girlfriend at 11:30 pm, my friend and I were suspicious so we flashed a flaslight in the eyes of my teacher and they were closed. I don't really know too much about what is going on.

We get cut off from the world every few years. Last time it was a rock slide just north of where the construction is - that doesn't include the yearly closures due to snow on the highway or whatever. Fortunately, it usually takes a few days for the cost of food to go up.

This one was a bad one though as we can't get out to the north either. Usually you can get to Van via the Duffy and the Fraser Canyon highway..no dice. Reports I heard were at least 5 days for Rutherford Creek towards Pemberton if the weather permits, and 24-48 hours at least for the Closure in the canyon.

 
Yeah I remember way back in the day when there was a rock slide in between Lions Bay and Britannia Beach and we were cut off, stuck in whistler. It was sweet though, cause I was like in grade 2. Way back in 88' or 89'. Good times

I feel bad for people who don't drink, cause when they wake up in the morning, thats the best the're going to feel all day

3 cars went over the washed out rutherford bridge. they've found 2. 1 was full of ppl who didn't make it.

for the ppl still missing my heart goes out to their friends and families. I am counting on their safe return.

 
whistler does suck though... what kind of a mall doesn't have a roof?

so uh yeah, the floods washed away like 10k of raod and they said it wont be fixed till april, so dont anyone try to come to whistler this winter. You'll get sent home. And if you do make it, i'll send you home too.

Sorry to hear all of this bad news this week. It's not every day that somthing like this grabs you like this and pulls you in when you least expect it. You always hear of this type of thing happening over seas and we just shrug it off like nothing. This week I think that all winter enthusiests should really look at how great they have it sitting back watching this from a safe place. My hat truly goes out to all people affected be this devistation that has unfolded in front of our eyes. Whistler see ya in a few weeks Tyler Gigg

this whole flooding thing isn't new for Canada... Quebec flooded not too long ago (a few years), a bunch of shit got disturbed there...

...and way back in the day (for me... so like 7 or 8 years ago) Manitoba got fucked up from floods. the red river flooded and a huge chunk of southern Manitoba just south of Winnipeg (winnipeg almost flooded too) was under water.

hell, last month a hurricane fucked shit up in halifax... hurricane's in canada - it's crazy.

(not to mention other natural disasters in north america over the past decade - the ice storm on the east coast, forest fires all along the west, avalanches (especially last year, they really fucked shit up) , land slides (something about el nino causing a bunch of houses to fall into the ocean down in cali')...

but hey, at least we got a good political system where we are free... (right... about that).

sorry... it just bugs me when people think that everything is just A-OK and nothing goes wrong in our little neck of the woods. just wait till Hood eruptes and everyones like - oh... we didn't see it comming, what a tragedy.

is the road going to be fixed by next wednesday? i hope so because i have to drive from van to whistler next wednesday and i have to be there then cause i have an interview..so hopefully it will hurry up and stop raining!

From what I hear the road is open right now... slow traffic and big waits... but open.

And I can assure you that if you couldn't make it up for an interview what ever company it is would totally understand due to the circumstances so don't worry...

 
The road opened late last nite. My buddy said yes, it took for ever and it was crazy. tons fo carnage and yes part of the road is missing. but yes it is now open and moving. Cya all in van

Unfortunately it's not quite that simple Jeffy. It is opening for a few hours every morning and every evening. Still closed for the majority of the days though. And it is moving, but very slowly. Anyone who doesn't absolutely have to leave Whistler shouldn't. Leave the road available to those who really need it.

What a fuct up year, first of no rain = huge fires in BC, then a category 2 hurricane in Halifax, now BC has too much rain and everybodys swimming.....maybe we're in for a stormy winter, hope you're all ok

 
well alot of these sevear weather changes are from global warming, cause its caused weather patterns to shift. and so thats why we are incountering more devesting weather

we came down from whistler to van today and the roads seemed fine except in a couple places, and very few cars on the road and no delays... seemed fine to be on them
