Floating Lawless Countries

Wow! This is an awesome idea, I mean, just think! If libertarian policies work on an isolated oil-rig like platform housing a hundred people or so, SURELY they will work just as well if implemented in a country of 300 million! There's really no practical difference after all!

NOOOOOO... WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU THINK THAT

There are some real gems in the comments at the bottom...

I am Peter Thiel, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Seasteading Institute city, a city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, Where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Seasteading Institute city can become your city as well.

yeaaa see, in theory you could do whatever you want and whatnot ("free from the laws, regulations, and moral codes of any existing place"). But then what happens when US, Canada, China, UK, France etc etc all put trade embargoes on your little country for violating what would be laws in their country. Or freezes all your assets which you have in their banks.

Lol, they're going to get taken over by some second class country because they know that one non-nuclear bomb would end its existence.

then they will create floating sea farms and sea banks so they don't need your silly trade lines and banking institutions.

just keep doubting them you narrow-minded individual; by the time you try and stop them it will be too late.

An underwater city. Well, everyone needs to have their dreams.

No dream, Mr. Sterling. Soon a reality.
