Flikr Critique

Nothing really jumped out and grabbed me.
It seems as though you just go outside and snap photographs of random things for a photo class or something. You need to find your niché in my opinion. Focus on a single subject matter. Rule of thirds.
The photos on page 4 could be like Istockphoto material. The river in a forest, the sand footprint haha etc.
Keep working man.
 
Thanks for the honest opinion. It's kind of hard for me to find my niche right now because I go to boarding school and don't get to shoot as much as I'd like, so I just try to bring my camera around and snap some shots. What suggestions would you have though for finding my niche beyond basic concepts like rule of thirds?
 
have you tried taking pictures of people, rather then still objects? You may find it fun. Or you could hate it... or be indifferent. (sorry if I missed pictures of people have already taken, I only saw the first page, nothing really caught my eye either.)
Try different times of day, different light, there are some filters that you can make without going and spending lots of money on them (example, star filter, just get some girls stalkings and pull it over the lens.)
Finding what you really like and what you're good at may just take messing around more.
 
To Twoods: I like shooting outside. Mostly because I like the exploring part of photography. I like landscapes and wide angles, but everyone does landscapes. However recently I've started to shoot things upclose, capturing small bits of an object, which I am really enjoying but I don't know if it could be really placed in a category.

and purplejump: I've never really tried shooting people because i've always thought of it as awkward. how do you shoot people in public, specifically strangers?

I, Personally really enjoyed your photos. This may sound weird but I really liked the vibe I got from them. I just liked the feel of them I guess. I might like them just because they seem similar to something i'd take. I'm pretty new to photography so just take what I say with a grain of salt. Other people were saying that you should try and take pictures of more moving subjects, I think you should to try it out. I tried it and didn't like it but thats just me. Maybe it's cause i'm not a fan of autofocus... sorry if that sounds dumb, but is anyone else out there like me? Like I honestly can't get good looking photos (IMO) using autofocus.
 
You don't need to use autofocus to snap good pictures of people. I never use it, I find it tends to focus on the wrong stuff. I've taken pictures of skiing using manual focus and the shots turn out great (great being I am satisfied with them, and the person is in focus. I'm no Dan Carr.)

To thread creator. I wouldn't suggest taking pictures of strangers, I feel awkward taking pictures of friends sometimes as well but I'd feel way more awkward taking pictures of strangers. If you just want to try messing around with it, without putting themselves or you in an awkward position, just take your camera out while they are messing around with a hacky sack or something like that. A situation where its not weird if one person sits out, be that person, who just so happens to also be holding a camera. For all you know they may get stoked on the idea.

but yes as Trevor said what interests you. from what you said about boarding, lets see some more boarding shots!
For my I definitely started out like you, just snapping pictures, then getting into macro (which is awesome btw) but now I have found that I really enjoy taking photos of action. Stopping something that happens in the blink of an eye in one single frame. I love it.
But by no means would I even call myself a photographer. I don't have the funds for it haha.
keep at it bro! I love new photographers, it's always good to have some new fresh eyes capturing the world!
 
Alright! Thank you! I always find it focuses on the wrong things too. I'm going to keep practicing with manual focus so I can get good enough to manual focus on the fly. OP sorry to threadjack for a little here. I'm done now.
 
haha alright thanks for the help man. and by boarding i meant like I live there, but I do longboard, which might be interesting to photograph haha.
 
of course. haha I went to a zoo and got some of my favorite shots ever. and of course aperture works magic for editing.
