Flatspins / Rodeos

I really wanna learn these this season and have searchbarred and read a lot about them but I was just wondering if you could give me your take on how to do / learn them.

The reason I posted them in one thread is because I've heard that they are very similar.

ahhh turp told me how to do these at the last session of high north don't know if you remember (doubt you do) and then i learned them on my diving board back home right after high north good memories thanks for this thread kid

well first thay are nothing alike. flatspin is like a horizontal back flip and rodeo is a closer to a misty then any thing. witch would you like me to explain.

the first vid is a falt 5
the sec is a rodeo 5

watch his skis. the first vid his skis go like = and he spins around his head. The second is like when you jump into bed on your back, its a forwerd pop rolling onto your back pointing your base of your skis to the take off.
so like I said very diff. witch would you feel safer trying

explain rodeos please,

ive been trying them on my friends tramp but i dont know if its working cus i havent gotten to film it yet

well i think they are pretty similar, for flat 5 you pop, go 90 then do a backie and then after a while doing them you get that smooth rotation that is flat 5. for rodeo 5 i kinda just set that rotation a bit earlier than 90 and its like rolling over on your back.
everybody does their shit differently, but if you look at rodeo and flat differently then yeah rodeo is kinda mistyish with the whole shoulder dropping thing.

For rodeos it really helps me to concentrate on popping off my big toe on my left foot and my pinky toe on my right foot (I spin left). This gets you in the position to flip. Pop off those two toes, and once your in the air throw your right shoulder forward and down the hill. Don't throw your shoulder down to the right, this will send you floating right.

After you flip, spot the landing over your right shoulder and ride away with steeze.

Im confused, whats the difference between a misty 5 and a rodeo 5, i looked up both tricks and the look the same to me, i spin naturally both ways, but lets go with left, when i pop i spin 90 to the left drop my right shoulder so that my back is flat with the ground, my feet come back undeme and finish with a second 90 to switch, like Pete O. in "Yeah Dude" or "anomaly", I believe that is a misty 5, bt the rodeo 5 looks the same in the above video.

what tricks should you have landed before you try a flat 5? i no thats not the same for everyone but like ones you should have on lock. and idk why i just feel like a flat 5 would be one of the easier inverts for me to throw personally. i just feel like i could pop and throw it, then just spot my landing and pull it around. anyone else have this feeling?

technically you're right, its not inverted cuz you spin horizonally around your body, but its so close to being inverted that yes, depending on the person, it could deff help with inverts like rodeos and others, and just that feeling and not freaking out in the air.

but tricks you should deff have down before modifying any spin, would obviously the basic spin itself. i wouldnt say you need to be able to 9 or 7 to be able to flat. i also wouldnt say you need to be able to do a 180 before a backflip. if you can stomp the basic spin most of the time, then you are prolly ready to modify it going inverted or whatever you're trying. however, some people find certain rotations easier, and might land diff tricks at diff times, so its kinda personal preference.

but no matter what, when trying a new trick, make sure you feel comfortable and are safe doing so. when its rained for 3 days and you cant even ski down the trail cuz you have no edge, dont go trying new stuff. if you dont have the basic spin down, chances are you might not get the rotation, but you most likely wont land it. some are luckier than others, but i personally try not to push my luck too much and know what im trying.

Im struggling getting the guts to try a rodeo this year, and i want to know how to prepare for them. i can do them on the tramp no question, its just a matter of having more air time and skis on.Ya know rodeo is one of the toughest tricks to teach. Its a lot like the misty. A lot of kids mix up Flat spin (ski rotates like this in a circle = flat ) and Rodeo (ski rotates like this in a circle ll vertically with your back down ). So making sure you know the trick well enough helps allot.1st talk to whom ever at your hill and ask them to make you a TABLETOP jump not a step down. step-down bad for learning tricks to much impact. about 30 feet with a 60 foot landing. double you table length is perfect for learning tables. and a nice rolling knuckle , nothing sharp.ASK YOUR PARENTS IF THIS IS OK FIRST AND PULL YOU BED AWAY FROM THE WALL, MAKE SURE IT WONT SLIDErodeo is all about diving forward from the jump and rolling onto your back.stand at the foot of your bed. (Not beside like the misty)dive and spin onto your bed as if your going to lay down on your back with your head on the pillow. try it with a japan once you get it good. the japan helps pull in that side of your body and pull the trick around.once your laying on your back looking at the ceiling, wiggle to the top of the bed. look over your shoulder and you should see the floor aka landingnow pull your feet over to the floor and you should be facing back to the foot of the bed.now i know you where asking how to get the guts. do this many times and visualize your self in the third person, first person, follow cam guy whatever it takes. till you see your self doing it and when you do get the ballz to try remember CCCR

Yeah, I saw that post in the other thread.I'm kinda confused though. So it's not just a like kinda lean back and try to get your ear to your foot? Cus that's kinda how I do them on a tramp. It's more of a forward thrown kinda thing?
Like in the Get Lucky Teaser at 1:51

In TJ Schiller's seg in SSD at 1:35 it looks like he's doing what you're describing, but he's not on skis. At 2:55 he is doing what looks to me like I described earlier in my post.

Could you please clear this up for me?

This is what's confusing me. From the vids it kinda looks like they're leaning back not forward. I don't know if it's just me reading your description wrong, or what.

Ok, so I think one of my main problems was misinterpreting what you said. I thought it was like a dive forward and then spin on an axis goin from your head to toe instead of spinning on a axis going through your stomach that is perpendicular to the ground. I also watched some other clips frame by frame, and I think, while the grab did make it look the way it did to an extent, the angles were the problem. I looked at clips from other angles and it made a lot more sense. Thanks for the help, and clearing things up for me, now that I know what you meant in your first post it clears everything up.
