Ok so im from minnesota where i went skiing about 3 or 4 times a week. It wasn't the best skiing but it was deec. I am now going to college in North dakota where it is flat. Im already looking for spots to build kickers on some small hills around here. There are no places to build a kicker where you land on the downside on a hill becuase there is no hills big enough. lol Is it a lost cause to try to build kickers and build landings? now that i write this it kinda sounds stupid. Has anyone ever tried making jumps where a car pulls you over it? or something?

Go watch warren millers Fifty. there are some kids in there that do it on a farm. why dont you switch universities though and go to utah or colorado?

if you have the ability to get a tow in, then it will work, but its really sketchy and unsafe, but still can be fun. getting the speed right is tough too dude.
id say look into another school or driving to south dakota to ski, if you are really into it

I've wanted to be a pilot my whole life...This is the second best aviation school in the nation...the other one is in florida. So would it be bad to have a kicker built on flat ground and go down a hill to hit it. Every jump on the slopes is on an incline not flat ground....

if u have a free day and a few friends willing to help, build up a landing on a slight downhill, then the next day build up a jump and bam u got yourself a jump, now get salt and pay immigrants to maintain it and u could have a decent jump for a few weeks

There are good aviation programs in Utah - Westminster and Utah State. And that way you won't ALWAYS be surrounded by a bunch of airplane nerds (I don't know if that's how UND is, but Riddle is for sure).

Ya im from fargo and im guessing that your going to NDSU. Im sorry to tell you that your pretty much out of luck with building a kicker. Last season we built a really small jump ( i cant even really call it a kicker) that we used a side by side 4wheeler to pull each other. It was still really fun but dont get your hopes up. ND = no hills

Im at UND not NDSU

i found a pretty good size hill and i could get some prettty good speed on a fast day. I don't know if i should build it on the hill or when the hill turns flat. I was thinking on the hill would be a nicer landing because you are combining the incline of the landing and the incline of fthe hill so it would be shallower angle relative to the pull of gravityt. If the landing is on flat you are coming down out of the air at a steeper angle to the ground. the hill is prolly 100 feet tall with a good slope to it. Like a really good sledding hill.

I sounded really smart when i said that stuff. wow!

GO turtle mountains....theres a ski resort near bottineau ND but thats like a 6 hour drive from Fargo eh!..its called Winter Park FYI...its a pretty shitty place though....ALL 42 of my cousins live in ND and I HATE FARGO

so i did a random google search for building a ski kicker and ran across your thread. i found it hilarous. i'm actually from ryder [an hour south of minot] north dakota. definately picked the wrong state for ANY semi-decent skiing. lucky for me, i live on a farm where i have pay loaders and shit to build little hills for me. yay.

but, i wanted to let you know that rocky mountain college in billings montana actually has an amazing aviation program. i went there for horse training for 2 years. not well promoted from my understanding, but it's better than und. more up to date, better planes [this is what i have been told mind you!].. i know one of the instructors actually went to und . best part, BETTER SKIING! they have a ski team. i was on it last year. not hard to get on, free trips up to the mountain and if you schedule classes right, you can go up everyday! i went at least 4 times a week last year. red lodge is only a little over an hour away and big sky is like 5. pretty tight. i'd def look into if i were you. only problem is that you're looking at droppin a good 20-30 g's on a school a year, unless you have really good grades and shit. they're pretty generous with scholarships. especailly if you're going into skiing and are good too. the skiiers are loooooved in that town. and billings is pretty rad. they've won a few national titles and go to nationals every year. races are free to go too, just pay for uscsa license and your golden. :]

^^^^ billings is not Rad!! unless u smoke alot of meth and like riding horses. Rock Dodge(Red Lodge) Sucks. just balls up and make a couple good trips to Big SKy or Colorado or somethin. Stay at NDSU besides Mantana lacks women

Go on you tube and check out creek gap town in session its by some guys ive seen around tht ski up on hood like me, just transfer skwls and go to like somewhere in oregon or wash its soo much better

haha i want to fly and i just went to check out und and decided imma go to air force academy instead... theres skiing in colorado!

First off North Dakota sucks and going to school here was one of the worst decisions of my life haha (I go to NDSU in fargo). but in a year ill be done and movin to either colorado or utah. I want to go to utah but I have friends in colorado. The closest hill is 2 hours away so I only get to ski on the weekends so you have to get creative but as far as jumps go you are gonna be pretty hard pressed to build anything with any kind of size. Ive built some on small hills and towed in with a snowmobile on one. The tow in one sucked and was kinda sketchy and the ones on small hills are small and the landings always suck. Im pretty pumped about this season cause behind my apartment building there is a huge lot with a pretty big dirt mound and I know the owner of the apartment and they are gonna let me use there bobcat for moving snow and im gonna build my own custom park with a rail or two and a couple jumps. There is plenty of snow accumulated from the parking lot too so it will be decent. I just recently started on it and I havent moved any snow yet but once it's done any NSers in fargo are welcome to come over and session. I thought I was the only skier in fargo. haha

I have built pretty big jumps on the flats prolly 30-35 foot gap. You need a plow of some type to accumulate enough snow because it does take a lot of snow. We then use a snowmobile as a tow in. It seems sketchy at first but you get used to the tow in and its off the hook fun.

I have plans to build a kicker in fargo. the jump and landing is pretty much setup because it's two big dirt mounds. We measured it out today and it's about a 50 foot gap. we are gonna build it up with a bobcat and tow in with a snowmobile. should be pretty sick. ill probably take some video of it and post it. It might not be for awhile cause we will probably need more snow.

yeah dude, they're pretty generous. as i mentioned, the skiiers are LOVED in that town. if you mention being on the team, people magically find a new love and respect for you in that instant [and it was my first time ski racing]. if you already have gear, all you'll pay for is uscsa shit. the trips to red lodge everyday, going to the races, food, hotels, [even beer! but that was on the dl...] is free! yeah red loge gets hella boring after a while, its not amazing, but since wew live in nodak, red lodge is better than whats here! but big sky is only 4-5 hours?! away... and you can ALWAYS find people that want to head up there!

i lived in btown for 3 years and for as much as they say montucky has a meth problem, i have yet have ANY experience of anyone being around or dealing it. and i was a fucking party animal and have been offered everything you can think of! its about as hick as nodak, some ways more, some ways less [there's four wheelers the size of my focus driving in town]. otherwise, i really enjoyed billings and montana, people are nice, and they like to have a good time. if you wanna ski and do aviation, check it out...

I checked it out and they do have an aviation program but i am actually training to be a helicopter pilot so i can fly all you newschoolers to the tops of mountains

^^ Bozeman is sick. Super chill town, Big Sky is dope, Bridger is sick if your into hiking, Sweetest airport ever... reminds me of an old log cabin... 4 or 5 terminals lol. But way better than billings hands down!! MSU is a pretty sweet school minus the lack of girls. But shit they got a Duck pond!
