Flat Feet

So I've got flat feet, but it's only just been diagnosed, it gave me back and knee pain for about a year and i used to get cramp in my foot when skiing. I took my ski boot to orthotics and they suggested trying to find a wider boot, than my nordica ace of spades? at the moment I've had them custom moulded with some new liners to try and reform my arch but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience and could give me some advice on what to do?
I search barred but only found a five year old thread telling me to go to orthotics. which I've done.

my arches collapse and it was giving me pain in my arches, back, knees,

and feet for years.

i finally got some real, doctor made orthotics to wear in my shoes every

day. i wear them for sports and just when walking around.

its the best thing i have ever gotten in my life, and they were free under insurance.

i also got fully custom orthotics for my ski boots (although you can use the ones for your shoes but they dont really work as well) and they work great.

i suggest going to get orthotics for your shoes first

I have the same problem. I went into Snow+Rock, who promptly sold me a £40 set of insoles, that were absolutely shit.

Go to a podiatrist, and get some legit footbeds, ones that are moulded to your feet. A wider last, I find helps aswell. A narrow last will push on the area of the foot where the arch should be, and cause huge problems. That is the sole reason I cannot ski in my brother's FTs.

I would be hesitant about getting a wider boot (without seeing your foot). Far often than not, as your foot collapses, your ankle falls in and your foot moves laterally (to the outside) inside the boot and getting a wider boot might make your problem worse because it can move more. Try to dial in as best you can your footbed situation and have your shells properly worked on.

i've had flat feet for years too but I use Superfeet innersoles,They are the best purchase I have ever made. I have probably 4 or 5 pairs, and I used to barely be able to run track or play soccer for more than an hour without knee and ankle pain. Never tried Alines, but I absolutely LOVE Superfeet.

I've definitely had the most success with ALINE footbeds, more so than Superfeet, Sole, and even "real" custom molded footbeds. There's a ton of engineering going on in an ALINE, which you can't put into a molded footbed. They help stabilize and center people's feet like no other. But even then, always find what works and feels best for you. Tons of pros use them who aren't even paid to use them, they just work super well.
