Flat 5 help

Ok this year i really really want to try and land a flat 5, although i havnt got my first 540 yet i know it will come super easy because i can spin them with ease when jumping off my feet and on tramps and stuff.

since the weather has been really nice lately i want to get one last tramp sesh on my neighbours tramp and i want to try some flat 5's. Its going to be 18 degree's celcious tomorrow which is probably 80 or 90 farenheit.

so yea step by step would be great.

yeah heres a thought to help you owith your rotation. it seems to always work for me. If i am doing a 540 like you are, tell your body and prepare for a 720 which means act like you are gone a do a 720, it gets some adrenaline going and for some reason makes you rotate faster.

hmm hard to say, i just put my body on the side and then i go grab a japan and spin a 540 thats how i do them but i doubt it helps you, ill post a video on youtube of my flatspins in slow mo maybe it'll help, thats how i understood them but i'd tell you to try a 720 before going on a flat5 so your just more stable on jumps but whatever it's your call

hate to be a negative nancy but your not just gonna land flat 5's without having landed a regular 540 before... those are basic tricks ( every spin up to 540) that you have to get down before trying flips and off axis. flat 5's are easy on tramp but their not the same on snow... and you havnt even done one on trampoline yet. I know its pre season and we all have the pre season stoke talking for us but you have to be realistic.

oh and btw its not because you can 540 on a tramp and on the ground that you can do it on jump its not the same thing at all but good luck mang!

of course i knwo i need to do a reg 5 first beofre attempting a flat 5. im pretty sure i said that in my initial post. Im just building up to it, like its one of my goals for this year. Im going to start trying some 5's right away this season so i can build up and start adding variations to it. And although doing things on tramps is not the same as on jumps it does help with air sense and knowing the motions of the spin. Like im not saying " oh yea if i land a flat 5 on a tramp im set for the snow for sure" i just want to get the motion's right. so i know how to set the trick and what it feels like.

same goes for everyother trick.

the best way i can say to do a flat 5, is set your rotation, and at about 90 degrees, huck for a backflip. you wont end up going invert and you will see your landing instantly and be able to see where you need to go and know where you are. you feet will just fall down underneathyou if you set your rotation right

thats about as easy as i can describe it. they took my a real long time to get down.

i dont reckon that trampoline trick was a flatspin. maybe it looks different on skis because the lip puts you at an angle more backseat but when i flatspin its more of an off axis backflip, imagine sticking a pin through your stomach and rotating around that center point.

avila, thats not really flat. that is more rodeo. i would carve off the lip to go flat. symms has a nice one in the skiing buyers guide with tips. it says its a rodeo but it sure looks flat to me.

there was a sweet trick tip of the flatspin (although it was of a "rodeo") on skiingmotion that helped my ass back in the day.

This is going to make zero sense, but what I do is:

1) come into the jump poised and low, ready to pop.

2) as I approach the lip, i bring my right hand back a little

3) as I'm at the lip, i essentially swing my right arm (fully extended and down) across the front of my body, while simultaneously throwing my my hip to the left like 45 degrees while i set a flip (really vague, sorry).

4) in the air I keep my head looking over my left shoulder.

5) for some reason this worked like the first time I tried it, and ive done it ever since.

It makes a lot more sense if I could use a video. It will look and feel different (but similar) on skis than on a tramp.

honestly not to be a negative nancy but ur prob not gunna do one this year if ur that determined maybe but u prob should be real comfortable spinning 5's and be able to throw a backflip and prob do 7's which would help a shitload

well dont be a negative nancy cause i went from 360 to cork 7's last year and my friend from 360's to 1080's you know its all about having the ballz!

Yeah the trick in the video looked more like a misty 5.
Anyways these are some really good tips, I just had a few more to add. When you pop off the jump throw your knees up to your chest. And as you start to look over your shoulder, open it up if that makes any sense

make's sense to me. I just had to read step 3 over twice. Thanks alot man.

and so symms has a trick tip in freeskier's buyer guide??

Hard to explain it with words, just look at my pictures and you'll see one of my first flat 5's. You just kind of spin 90 degrees and lean back off the kicker.

its pretty straight forward. just imagine the axis in your head and jump and kick your feet out from under you and lean back like that fat joe song.

For skiing I'd say learn at least 7's first just in case you overrotate, then get some lincolns, and then get some backs, then just go for it. I learned rodeo/flat 5's without backs though so you could just cut out the backs if you want cause there gay anyways.

dude people do japans with flats because that grab really flows well with that rotation. you can do flat 5's with any grab, but it feels most natural with a japan. if you want to learn a real nice flat 5, a japan will really help you.

well thanks for the help everyone but it turns out my neighbour took down her tramp a few days ago( fuck!) I might still want to try them this year, like on a pow day or something, idunno, but i would have felt way better having done them on a tramp before hand.

you can always go to some tramp places open to public on week ends to practice PM me if your around montreal i know a couple of them..

flat 5 on a tramp doesn't equal one off of a jump.

Real life example: I tried spinning off a jump the way I spin my cork 5's on my trampoline... Ended up doing a flat 7 and almost landing it.

As long as you have good air sense you'll land something. Just try it on a nice kicky jump with a steep landing, with dialed speed tho.

Everyone i live with(5 other guys) are on NS all the time, so us = better than everyone else.

more-so than not. It's called air awareness, when you know where the fuck you are and how to adjust your spin to land
