Flat 3 help

it's more of a back flip than a lincoln. The way I was taught was to originally set it like a back flip but you push one side of your hip forward upon takeoff on the jump. I would imagine what you're doing wrong is that you're dipping your shoulder, which you shouldn't be doing. Hope that helps.

Yeah just pretend there is a thing at like 10 oclock that you're wanting to kick and stomp both your feet on. And just open your shoulders up and boom, flat 3.

A real flat 3.... well thats different

Back dat flat up! As in set it more backwards than sideways. Never flatted on snow but I'm a pro at them on tramp.

Is it easier/better to carve into it? I spin right but I do my Lincoln Loops left and I imagine I will attempt flats left as well as it feels more comfortable. The 10 oclock thing makes a lot of sense so when you kick your feet over there on takeoff do you just start turning your right should up and back over towards the mountain?

OnceI I had backies dialled I slowly started steering my skis further from '12 ocklock' whilst keeping my shoulders and body set at 12, that should throw your skis and legs out into a flatter rotation. Once you get the feeling you can start to open it up as much as you dare. Good luck!

Uhmm depends. You can get "flatter" with a carve. So like If I do a big sweeping carve left I can throw my weight to the back right, open my shoulders, and at that point my chest if facing back up the hill. Doing that I can actually get it perfectly flat (like my head is not above my waist/legs, or below it, it's a perfect line).

But honestly don't try to learn it by carving, it will make it harder for when you don't want to carve and you won't really get the right "feel for it".

Yeah, feet kick out towards 10 oclock, and your left shoulder opens up towards up hill. Helps to grab japan too, it gives you the right motion and feeling with your right hand sweeping forwards as you open up with your left hand.

I could never do flat spins on the trampoline, until after I learned it on the snow. I got the flat rotation first try on snow, it's much easier with the way you're taking off and landing to do it on snow.

Yup

Approach the lip, pop a backflip and try to go for japan at that moment too.

That will duck the grabbing hands shoulder making it more off axis-ish

have a nice wide stance when you go off the lip, it usually helps me a ton. Throw it more like a backflip, but scrunch your shoulder that you want to and it will throw you more off axis. Throw a safety grab in first before going for japan, it was way easier for me that way.

I bet over 50% of the freeski population doesnt even know what a real flatspin is. there is a reason why its called a FLATspin. just gotta throw with your hips and shoulders in opposite directions with a firm kick with the trailing foot to cross over your body. It is very hard and virtually impossible on small jumps but if you can find the perfect blend of kick and angle of shoulder/hip throw will give you a true flatspin
