the rom is for droid, will it work on milestone? they are basically the same phone but i'm not sure

i'm probably the only person on NS that can answer this. 1. has anyone done it? yes, i have done it. cyanogenmod is a very stable rom to run. this is usually the first rom a new user runs.

2. will i lose my apps, contacts and pictures? indeed unless you create a NANDROID backup, using somethine likeClockWork Mod or TI backup, etc.

3. does the phone have to be rooted for me to flash it? YES. you won't even be able to get to the bootloader screen to prepare for a flash if you aren't rooted.

4. the rom is for droid, will it work for milestone? yes it will. if you look on that link you posted they are the exact same phone, just different names for outside the us carriers (like i have a droid incredible 2, but its called the droid incredible s outside the us)

if you have anymore questions you can pm me, always down to help someone who needs help with rooting and flashing and such.

guess again my friend. you aren't the only flashaholic on ns. i don't have much to contribute to the op as you did a fine job of answering his questions. the one thing that i would add is to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=667 and read, read, read, read. Do yourself a favor and don't fry your phone. every question you could possibly encounter while rooting/flashing has most likely been covered in those forums.

currently running fresh on my evo.

thank god i'm not the only one. i'm running the AOKP ICS m4 build on my dinc2 right now... absolutely love it. you should both look into ics roms for you phone.

http://forum.aokp.co/page/releases/_/milestone-4-r9 if you are interested and want to see if your phone is supported. milestones come out every month or 2, builds usually come out on a weekly basis depending on the dev's schedule

what is it about ics roms that you like so much? battery? speed? what kind of things do you do with your phone? the two main things i need are a functional/dope gps system and working wireless tether. i'm willing to sacrifice some battery life for optimal speed, but not so much so that i overheat my phone and it's dead in 3 hours.

there's a lot of things... overall interface is cleaner and more interactive, i get incredible battery life (talking like 60% left after being on all during school [7:30-2], listening to music and being on twitter most of the time. never gotten below 30 percent, even on heavy use days), my speed clocks in pretty well (stock 1ghz + on demand cpu governing = success). the customize-ability, especially on the AOKP rom is fantastic. things like battery and weather in lockscreen, weather in the notification window, swipe away notifications, scrollable widgets, things like that. you should seriously look into it, roman (the guy who dev's for the gnex) does a fantastic job working with other people to come in with new additions and protekk (the guy who ports to my phone) does a great job of getting builds to us quickly.
