Flairing

im pretty sure most people are to young but wondering if anyone flairs?

i got my first proper job at the sand bar in sydney which is ranked 3rd in the world 3 hours practice a day then a 8 hour shift, then research and mixing, pretty intense but fun as hell.

Yeah a little. Your bar is just claiming that ranking, by the way. London, LA and Vancouver (AKA LA north) are the global capitals in flair bartending. That's where all the competitions are, that's where all the good bartenders are. I've seen some of the most ridiculous shadow passes here... you wouldn't even believe.

flairing is not just flipping bottles, it is the the elite of bar tending, to work at my bar we need to know around 100 cocktails from heart, plus around 3 years full time working in bars.

yea im assuming its not as good as people say, deffinitly the best in australia. my mentor just won the ibag games in working flair its pretty intense

come on, its pretty much just flipping bottles then stopping and pouring stuff in cups. Its impressive and I'm sure it takes a ton of practice but it is just flipping bottles.

We learned a bit when i did my Bar Course a few years ago - its definitely not easy! You get mega tips if you throw down the good stuff in a nice bar/club though.

mad skill def.

only thing is it takes about 5 minutes to make ur drink, imagine asking for a drink in a bar and the guy starts doing all that shit haha

yea we have on the cocktail list if you dont want it flaired just tell the barmen and we wont do it. but you come to a flairing bar to get stuff flaired.

and yea ill make 250 in tips a night.

Meh. I've got around 120 cocktails and 50 or so shots. Knowing that many drinks just means you completed a decent course, doesn't make you a good bartender. Charisma makes a good bartender. That and the ability to pour 6 drinks at once and get them all done in a minute. Speed pouring = most useful bar skill ever.

speed poring is important but i think charisma is the most important someone should walk into a bar they have never been to and go order a drink and be comftable. and the bar is a flair bar speed is not number one for guests the experence is if they want speed go to a lounge bar, people come to flairing bars to see and watch flairing it may take longer but it is cool to watch, and thats what they pay for not just the booze in the glass.
