anybody on here ride track bikes? if so, post a pic of your whip.ill post mine once i get my rear wheel laced up.

theres a few of us that know what we're talking about, and a few that are just complete idiots and talk out of their asses. im gonna watch this thread and see what happens before i post anything. that and i'd have to search for photos on my computer. my bike is in pieces, ready to get shipped HOOOOMMEEEE!

my buddy has a fixed gear bike that I have ridden to work a couple of times. Don't really get it, and it is kind of scary going down hills (if we are talking about the same thing.) But it is something interesting.

I've got one. I love it, but I don't ride it a ton. I live in a flat city so it isn't bad. Ripping around in traffic is pretty fun every once and a while.

YOU FAIL

Actually, he successfully avoided a fail by not trying to post a picture, knowing he was unable to.

Sorry man, but it looks like you hit your head on this one.

i'm not typically into the ns hate, but i think my friend's band got it right. Their name is Fixed Gears are for Jerks and Lesbians

hey everybody.let's flame fixies.yeah yeah that'll be fun. we'll make a certain group of people feel shitty.yeah that'll be cool. let's do that

do you like trails with no down hills, rocks, stumps, jumps, or anything fun? i understand having a single speed for the challenge, but a fixie mountain bike is rather silly. but i'm not the one riding it, so as long as you like it i guess that's all that matters.

Well, between my dad and I, we have 3 regular geared full suspensions for more serious stuff... So the fixie is mostly just for XC.

thats the only cool fixie ive ever seen, i cant fucking stand the people around here that ride them, they are all super stuck up douche bags, they think they own the fucking town because they ride a bike thats a tiny bit harder to ride than a normal bike.a fixie mtn bike is about the only cool way to do it, cause your not riding it just to look cool.

i never understood the attraction. i rode a friends once and it was impossible to ride on anything other than smooth surfaces. you cant even hop a curb, or for that matter do anything that involves the wheels leaving the ground. not my thing i guess, and generally the people who ride them around here are stuck up fags who work at starbucks.

i dont mean to generalize or put anyone down, i just dont get it, i even have a single gear bike but it doesnt make any sense to not be able to coast.

This video is rad. It totally changed the way I look at fixies, and I hope it does the same for other people. That said, I don't think I'll be getting one anytime soon.

if anyone knows a site like ns for fixies to trade parts let me know. Im building one right now and having trouble finding a rear wheel. cog attached or not doesn't really matter but mines off a beach cruiser so there is no way to lock it...my girlfriends dad said he'd try and weld it on so we'll see how that goes

neil, check out benscycle, or velosolo......velosolo has come real cool cogs that screw onto a FRONT mtb disc hub.......check it out.....no more lockrings, no more slip.
it will probably be the next kit i get, if i strip another hub.

where exactly did you find a disc track hub? or are you just running ss. i understand a ss mtb, but fixed.....would be fun.....but totaly impractical.

VELOSPACE and my friend has macaframa coming in the mail :)still think mash is better thoand serge i am one of the stupid kids with fixies that dont know anythin you talk aboutalso in boise now fixies are everywhere, so god damn trendy here

Completely unrelated, and at the risk of some hate...

Anyway I am looking for a bike for a short commute, something around 200 dollars and decent but not so nice that I would die if it was stolen. I don't really know if I want a mountain bike or a road bike and I know very little about bikes. The commute is all city but has a few curbs and little obstacles but a road bike should be able to handle it.

If anyone could help me out by looking on Denver craigslist that would be really tight and worth some k.

I am 6' and my inseam is around 80cm I think if that matters.

Thanks to anyone willing to give me some tips on what to look for or for taking a look on craigslist denver

I'm a super noob when it comes to fixies. I have an old road bike that I want to make a fixie. What exactly do I need to make it a fixie. I think I'll need a new wheel set and a crank maybe? Can someone tell me everything I need to make a road bike a fixie?

fail. here i think

And to the guy who asked about fixies, google "sheldon brown" And read everything on his site. He is basically the world guru of bicycles.

I'm not really sure why there is all the hate on fixed gears. i have been called "indie" a ton of times and i don't see why just because you ride fixed people think you're gay. it's a really fun way to ride and i think most people who have ridden them would have to agree. But that's just my opinion. and here's my bike =)

So it sounds like you don't ride a ton right now. I would look at getting a mountain bike frame and putting skinny tires on it. Mountain bike geometry is a little more upright and comfortable than a road bike. If you want a road bike, you should be able to pick up an old 10 speed pretty cheap. Get a really good tune up, maybe some new tires/seat/bars and you should be good to go.

i have a cheap ebay bike that every trendy person in town hassorry but i cant afford nice components(and my parents said if i take off my brake theyll take it and my ski pass away)

yes. Buy it. As long as it rides well. I bought my original for 110, and have put upwards of 500 into it.

I got an old ccm roadbike Im converting to a fixie. its in pieces right now. but when its done ill post a pic
