I've never fished to keep, I've always caught and released the fish. I caught some big ol' bass today though and I'm going again tomorrow and I want to keep them. How do you humanely kill them before takin them home? I figure a bucket of ice water?
 
we put them in a cooler with ice, and then they usually die on the way home. then we cut them open take out all the bones and have a fish dinner.. i love fishing. i have very rarely catched and release, we only do it when it's mandatory.
 
i swing them over my head back and forth as if fly fishing untill they are dead, hopefully they fly off of the hook because im not gonna be the one to take it off
 
i usually just throw them in a bucket and if they die on the way home then thats good and if not then i just cut their heads off.
 
put them in a cooler with ice, they wont freeze it will just keep them from going bad if they get warm. and if they dont die i just give them a jab in the head with my knife.
 
putting them in a cooler of ice is stangling them to death. they can't breath so itis a slow tortureous death. you should cut thier head off then but them in the bucket. or just snap thier neck. quick and simple that way they don't suffer to much.
 
Yeah dont eat the bass. They are not that great, and they are not good for your health. Stick the the sunfish. They taste great on the bbq.
 
for bass/most fish i usually just put them on a stringer and let them kinda swim in the water or put them in a live well. And that freeze technique is pretty well mandatory for lake trout if you catch them. They swim in such cold water that if they arent on ice when they get out then their meat goes bad.
 
honestly its a freaking fish. who the heck cares??? I go fishing all the time and when i catch and keep i just throw em in a bucket of ice and they die. thats that who cares if they suffocate theirs 4000000000000000000000000 more of them.

i don't know. maybe like grab them by the tail and wack their head against something hard????
 
u kill it then freeze it

to kill it u ether stab it in the brain like inbetween the eyes i think (it may sound bad but its better then sufficating them)

or u snalp their neck by putting your thhumb in the mouth and quickly pull back as hard as u can and that will kill them

or hit them as hard as u can on the head with a rock/bat/padle

dont use the freezing thing casue its crual and inhuman
 
Yes I do. My great grampa made us learn when we were kids and he made us hold the eyeballs when he got back from fishing.
 
when we fish for channel cats my uncle just punches them in the top of the head and then hangs them on a hook in the barn. haha so hick bare fisted punch to the dome.
 
I wouldn't advise keeping the big ones. Older fish don't taste nearly as good as the younger ones. For bass, I'd eat them if they were roughly 12-15" long, but once they get much bigger than that they won't taste quite right. Also, it's better for a trophy fishery if you let the big ones go.
 
take your pointer finger and middle finger and put them underneath the front gils. the pull back on the head. it snaps the neck, they die immediatly and feel no pain. shit's legit.
 
duck tape them to the street. Runover them in drive with both front and back wheels... then put it in reverse.

or you can be cool and ghetto stomp it!

its a fish remember.
 
if you are willing to stab it in the face with your hook and then drag it to you through the water why do you care about how you kill them?
 
The freezing thing gives me the heebie jeebies. Usually i swing their head onto a rock or if I'm in a boat, I stab them where the spinal column meets the skull.
 
most people either just hit them on the head or keep em out in the air for a few minutes. you could just slit them open with a kniffe too. i almost always catch and release and the only time i killed one was when i threw it in the water for an eagle to take it was reaallly cool cause i flew right over our heads with its talons out and we got some awsome pics.
 
I hooked this fish and fought a little but my brother finished the catch. It took an hour and 15 minutes
