Top is Northern Pike caught by my brother, its somewhere around 28-30 inches.

Bottom is Small-mouth bass caught by myself, 21 inches. Forgot weight though.

Both caught at Lake Champlain in Vermont.

last season, in one night my boat caught 76 bluefish or something like that and 20 or so stripers, 5 or 6 were big cows around 40 pounds. Thats with 5 people i had on the charter boat i run in the summer, ill try to find some pics of it, it was ridiculous. Today i got some nice trout on light tackle fly in a brook behind my house, never new they were there until this spring.

I went to a little stream on saturday in the rain and caught like 5 1-2 pound brookies, my little bro caught 6 on a fly rod.

My biggest bass ever was about 5 pounds, caught on a live sunfish, I haven't gone bass fishin this year yet though.

And... a couple years ago in August, I took my old pap's on a deep-sea trip, and I ended up catching a 22 pound pollock. I won the 50$ pot, it was pretty exciting.

Dam, I thought my Champlain small mouth was big at 17 inches.

And Max, lets gitter done! And I'm sure VT Fish and Game would catch us, I've gotten $220 in fines on the lake in the past 3 years..... FUUUUUU by the same damn fish/game warden every time too :/

i have always wanted to do something like that, but im going to be the captain of a charter boat this summer so it should be pretty fun

where are you chartering out of? west coast? for what? commercial is great, but just being out on the ocean is good enough for me

east coast off long island and montauk, in an area called The Race for mostly bluefish and stripers, albacore tuna and shark can usually be found in late summer and early fall too

Buy a $15 license? I'll take you to classic outfitters if your to escared...

Come to think of it, I need to do that soon...

interesting. shark is fun to catch as well. only caught blue shark though. we would bait a hook at night with some albacore scraps. we also bought a humboldt squid jig and would catch those things at night as well.

they have wicked aim with their squirters when you haul them over the side. they are really cool, you can see them changing color even when they are on the deck.

i'd like to get out there again this summer.

Chain pickerel are a relative of the northern pike, they're both part of the esox family, however they're different fish.

The northern pike has greenish blue sides with a pattern of what seems to be random white spots, with black spots on its orange rounded fins.

The chain pickerel or esox niger (that's actually the name) has a goldish green color with a black chain like pattern running along the length of its body. Its fins are pointed with a lack of spots.

The chain pickerel generally grows to around 25", I've caught as big as 28". The northern pike on the other hand can reach close to 50".

/debate on whether those were pike or pickerel.

More proof:

me and my friends caught a bunch a bluefish out in the ocean and we were cutting them up on the dock and some island sounding lady wearing a cloak asked us for the bones and organs. sounded like she was gonna make voodoo soup or something. it was funny at the time.

I hate those, they are called dogfish in the northeast and they are all over the place, they steal your bait and are a pain to get off the hook. And if you don't fillet them soon after they die, their piss leaks through their body and soils the flesh and it tastes nasty

you can eat those?

we caught like a 4 foot one on my boat and threw it back.

they are such a pain in the ass.

how about you? we ran into a ucluelet a few times because of weather and were docked at 52 steps. other times we went into newport,or and westport,wa. the boat is docked in false creek though. having to run back to vancouver through the passage sucked though and the juan is so long it felt like it was never gonna end at 7 knots avg.

So last year I was playing with some waterproof firecrackers, just throwing them in the lake to watch em light up and make that awesome sound. It was about 12:30 or so and i was a few beers deep but that never stops me. after dropping in roughly 6 firecrackers i started to see sunfish around my drop zone, no big deal, they are stupid fish. i found entertainment in watching them dash around the bubbling fuse as they sank down, then they all scattered when the thing exploded. Then it happened. Just one firecracker and I see what i though was a stick float up. It flopped over once and I recognized it as a fish. A nice large mouth bass floated up! I was so pumped I jumped in the lake and pulled it out with my bare hands. It was very dead but didn't show holes or blood. a clean kill.

I then proceeded to ax off his head and cook him over the campfire that we had going. Even though it wasn't some monster fish it was exhilarating that i got him with a firecracker.

TL;DR killed a fish with a firecracker and ate it.

A fish i caught when i was in Australia for six months fished every day all the way around the country

It's a 14 pound queenfish

Very nice fish, well done.

Looks like enough fisherman in here to dedicate a whole forum to it like tgr does. Cults never seem to stay active.

catching fish since '00
Funny fishing story though, so i'm spending fathers day fishing with my dad on Lake Kabetogama (Northern Minnesota) a few years back and its raining and cold and we're trolling along. I was just sitting there not getting any bites, letting my line drag along. So my dad says you have to jerk it every so often and grabs my pole and jerks the line.... catches a 19 inch walleye. It was rough.

Best catches in this thread for sure.

Threads. Never use to be into fishing until I started dating my bf two years ago... he use to be a Professional Musky Fisher before I moved him out to Colorado. He misses it. We're thinking of picking up fly fishing this summer though.
