Im looking to get one for my sony mini-DV camera. Are the cheaper ones a lot worse than the real expensive ones? Im talking like 50-150 bucks instead of 400-800. How pricey do you have to go to get something that looks pretty good?

god damn.. i want a wide angle lens so bad for my minolta maxxum... so bad.. but to answer your question, i don't know

-katie

the one im using is not actually mine, just borrowing for a really long time, but its pretty decent and real tough. i dont think it cost too much either--maybe 50 bucks at most? and the quality is great, its a semi-fisheye and works fine for follow cams, etc.

you're not going to find a true fisheye around $50. Maybe around $100 though. But the tru ones you see used in skate videos cost around $150. At least I'm pretty sure they do.

prolly like 120, me and bob white (linesnowblades) hit it once and the same time and went so big out blades fell off!!!!!!! We were like shit our blades just fell off, thats not supposed to happen!!!! What a day.

duide you can get a REALLY good "fisheye" for around 50-60 bucks. It is more of a super wide angle, but they claim it is fisheye. Kenko makes a really good one, 0.53X super wide. I just put one on my Canon ZR 90, bought a step up ring, and the thing works like a charm. You can get out some of my recent videos to see the effect, we use it almost off the time. Mind you the quality goes down the shitter when uploading onto NS but youll get the picture.

hope that heps, PEACE

you won't really notice distortion untill you get to about .3x, anything higher (.5x) than that is a waste of money. and you don't need to drop a g on one. you can get one for like 60-100 bucks that will work fine, It's not like you're shooting Imax film and need the best les' ever made.

My weiner is probably harder than yours.

dude, i bought some clip on fisheye for $40 - and despite what anyone says it works awesome...im soo glad i didnt go spending any more cause i wouldnt have noticed any difference. i bought mine from Henry's and its a wide angle fisheye. i just use my camera to "document" skiing and just having fun...im not trying to make a movie - and for that it works GREAT! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

if you have 30mm mounting rings get a kenko .43x semi-fisheye from adorama.com. then get a 37mm-30mm step down ring so it fits and it will be the sickest lens for like $80.

What? Fisheye lenses can be used for and are good for much more than "just skateboarding" pictures... it's great for lots of sports, for promo pictures, fashion, art... actually, the possibilities are endless. you just have to know how to compose the picture and use design to make it work.

i was looking for on for my 35mm cam a while ago... man are they ever expensive.
