If you just have a little handicam, just get one from ebay. Type in your model, or whatever size the threads are, and look at the wide angles and fisheyes. I wouldn't suggest going too wide. I use a .5x and a .38x. The .38x without the macro is pretty distorted and fished, and is too much unless you are filming in-air follow cams. I'd say just get something around .45x with a macro. Then you can use it with or without the macro. You can get one one ebay for around $30-$40 shipped, and will be very happy with it for your application.
I'm not saying don't get an expensive lens if want to, but I think for your camera it is not needed.
