Fish tanks continued...

so my brother upgraded from a 30 gallon to a 40 gallon 2 weeks ago. i took his 30 gallon and made it into a freshwater tank about an hour ago, while his is salt water. right now i dont have any plants, rocks, anything.....just gravel and 4 dumbass fish. what should i buy to make this thing awesome? i remember someone had a clown knife or something, that would grow huge and kill everything and such, but would that work in a 30 gallon tank and on a limited payroll (i have no job and about $300). what should I do?

if you want a good fishtank...you should do some research, see what fish are compatable in what size tank etc.....that way you wont waste your money and have your fish die.

i just got new skis last year. and yea, i should do some research, but until the weekend, im tied up (although im on newschoolers...?). plus im lazy and like quick answers. pirate theme would be cool, but im looking more along the line of live vegetation. ill probably just ask someone at the store.

ive got a 30 gallon brackish setup with four columbian sharks and two spotted puffers. It's a really nice set up and can easily be mistaken for a full out saltwater.

go out to the woods, find some cool rocks, boil them and then put them in the tank to form the terrain. as for fish whatever... don't go too expensive cause they die. get a sucker to keep it clean and then i dunno, i was told by aquarium expert that you should try to get one inch of fish size per gallon of water. so add up the size of all the fish you might want to buy and it should equal the size of your tank.

get some good lights, and make it a planted tank. Planted tanks are cool and pretty cheap. you'll probably have to spend a lot in the beginning to get all teh right equipment, but then after its really cheap.

asking someone at the pet store....that can go very badly....there are many people there that talk like they know everything, but are very wrong ( ive found this out the hard way).....but you can get a guy who does know what hes talking about, although to be sure of this, you have to also know what you are talking about.

If you want to spend some time on it, go with discus... you could get 2 or 3 discus in a 30 gallon tank, just make sure you cycle the tank with some tetras or something first, and make sure it's perfect water parameters for discus, because they are expensive. If you get them as babies they're cheaper, though. Also make sure you have a good heater because they need 86 degree water.

thats what happened to my brothers tank, but now he knows the deal with saltwater and such. i'll go to this place where the people do know what they're talking about (they know my brother and give us discounts and stuff).

i was gonna just get a big tank (like i have) and fill it with planted plants and just put in like $20 worth of goldfish (200 fish or something). now, i think i'm going to get like 2 big fish and some driftwood, as well as some plants.

i need $$ first.
