Well, SOMEBODY is saying what's worth 4 points, what's worth 3 points, aren't they? Just look at the state of slopestyle and big air contests last season: Switch tricks scored higher than unnatural, etc. It wasn't even consistent (but better than in the past).
Anybody who wanted to be in the money tossed the same switch (pick a trick) 900 with a (pick a grab) on every pass. To the "uneducated" eye, it all looked the same. Boring.
Pipe run: straight air - alley-oop 180 - flare - unnatural 540 - inverted 900 - flatspin 540 - etc. It was like friggin' compulsaries. 'Cept for Turpin, that sick switch-ridin' bastard!
Don't get me wrong, I watch these athletes, in awe. It just seems to me that contests are setting the direction and motivation for a number of skiers, and just because "FIS-sanctioned" isn't in the title, doesn't make it any less de rigueur.
