FIS possible ruling.

Was listening to the ski show with sammy carlson last night: http://www.powdermag.com/stories/the-ski-show-sammy-carlson/ and he talked about a possible ruling that in order to enter the olympics, skiers must take part in loads of FIS qualifying comps throughout the season meaning they will probably miss the x-games, dew tours etc. Looks like skiers will have a big dilemma in 2014, compete in FIS comps and miss the usual big events or vice versa and miss out on the olympics, if this ruling is true.

Oh and when you watch the video, at least for me, don't pause it or skip anything or it will take you back to the start, just let it play all the way through, its a good listen anyway.

Im not even necessarily saying its a bad thing, im in two minds about the olympics, it might mean skiers shun the FIS, which I hope they do if this is true, again and continue how we are. Is it the same in snowboarding, with the qualifying contests all year?

I see this from a totally different perspective. I don't think most guys would mind skipping a year or two of competitions they have already competed in to have a chance to perform on the world's biggest athletic stage. No matter how many dope shots or comps has already done, the pinnacle of his skiing career (from a media standpoint) will be what they do in the Olympics. And it's the inaugural season of it in 2014 so they have the chance to be part of something bigger. Plus, if they can't go to the big comps it will make room for other guys less mainstream to get their chance to shine in the spotlight.

It will be interesting to see what happens. You can bet the ski companies aren't happy about this either. They want their athletes competing in comps that get coverage, and the qualifiers are much less important than x games.

they should make x-games and dew tour qualifying events. If they can make that work in some weird way.

meh, i don't see any snowboard olympians missing x games or dew, can't really see the justification in making it any different.

i dont think ski companies DONT want their athlete to compete in olympic...i mean its fucking olympic! dont you think they will get view by everyone in the world if their athletes made it to olympic?

why cant skiing have a grand prix like snowboarding? it works for them and everyone still competes in xgames, dew tour, etc.

This is exactly why a percentage of the ski community were against our sport reaching the olympics. The whole reason the sport began was to get away from FIS, I wonder where the new break off will end up this time.

seriously. I'm not saying I was ever 100% against the Olympics but I was worried this was going to happen. It should have been on our own terms. We just fucken dropped our sport back into the hands of FIS.

FIS is trying to take complete control of comp skiing by forcing their comp schedule on athletes.

I say we be true to our roots and say FUCK FIS. If all the top skiers refused to accept the ridiculous comp schedule i think they would have to change the rules

I'm all for open, qualifying events for the Olympic team. Makes sense to me. However, I am against having a bunch of dumbasses in FIS decide to schedule qualifiers that coincide with the same dates of well-established major events. It isn't like they know what dates they are facing. A little collaboration with the big, major cash-money events could go a long way to making the jump a successful one.

logic from logan once again...

Also, I heard that snowboarding has lost their bid to run the grand prix events outside FIS jursidiction. at least they aren't treating knuckledraggers and two plankers any different.

whats so sick in a triple full ? lol you aint gonna see some triple flatspin or a dub cork being afterbang... only some gay spin with gay flip. FUCK FIS

are you dumb?

you do know slopestyle has been added to the olympics so no, you won't see a triple full in a slope course.

it'll be interesting to see what the athletes will choose to do. the olympics are one thing, but would there be prize money at the qualifiers? granted most of these guys don't make too much what incentive would they have to go to an event where they may make no money?

i mean people wont do some kangs and stuff like that because its going to be judge on the landing and how gay your flip is(if you understand what i mean)

there will be dub back 720(you know this kind of stuff) right like the big air but with some rail and smaller kicker

I think this is true. Different grabs will be scored differently and i would go as far to say that competitors will write out their run and then be scored on the difficulty of it and then the execution. Figure Skating style.

FUCK FIS

You people amaze me for your stupidity. Skiing is about doing whatever the hell you want to do. If people want to compete in the olympics there going to do whatever it takes to get there. If they dont want to then they wont. The olympics are the biggest stage in the entire world for sport. It is amazing that skiing has been included. The exposure, and just the thrill of watching a slope event for an olympic gold medal will be such an awesome thing to see.

All of you whiners that are like FUCK FIS, fuck fis's rules and shit we should just run away and be a tiny little ass rebellion. How dare you attempt to take away somebodys dream. Its not like most of you or probably really any of you will have to make the decision anyway. If you dont want to support the olympics, dont support them. Its really that easy, go off to your home mountain, ski park.. film shit, do whatever you want. And guess what skiing will go on progressing without you.

NO you wont it will be relatively the same flips/spins + whatever 3 years progression gives. You wont see aerials stuff.
