finally after years of having a stick up their ass, FIS has finally allowed inverts in mogul competitions. apparently they realized that they were killing freestyle and had to make changes.

although this is sick that they finally woke up and made the changes, i dont think they went about it properly, they shouldve let the competitors know at least a year in advance that they would allow inverts. they brought it on too fast and didnt give people time to learn the new tricks, so there will now be a few elite people that will be throwing down, and the rest who attempt it and will hurt themselves.

still, im happy to see that they made the changes

Really... I didn't see any lincolns, there were a lot of iron cross backs. And a lot of the skiiers didn't even bother with inverts and did spins, Guess they aren't ready yet.

haha snowboard racing is useless. if you want to race, thats what skis are for. snowboarding was meant to break away from that whole sort of thing, tight-assed racing mentalities and all, so how does snowboard racing make sense?

and i was watching pontiac world of skiing, and a coach said that now that off axis jumps are allowed, maybe we will be able to lure all the newschool skiers back?

Tanner started this with his dinner roll, i just read about this in ski canada (i kno its not the greatest but i got free subscription sp?) its kuz they don't want to have to use slo mo equiptment all the time to check if the competitor was inverted. I can't wait till world freestyle is in fernie (2 weeks)

it's chill and shit, but now mogul dudes think they're top shit because they can do backs and d-spins that they spent all summer learning on tramps and water ramps from how their coaches told them how.. and they have 0 style.. that's the main thing that i don't like man, they all look exactly the same in the air, i could never tell one from the other.. but i don't think under fis comps that anyone will ever grasp what it's all really about

I think that's the point of it all. FIS will always be many steps behind because they just don't innovate. Whereas I think one of the main draws to newschool stuff is that we're pushing the boundaries of progression. Not just reacting to what happened 3 years ago and trying to catch up.

i dont think we should have slopestyle and pipe for skiing in the olympics. the x games are our olympics. we should stay different than everyone else. and, the FIS sucks

Skiing halfpipe is supposed to debut at the 2006 Winter Olympics. I read Rory Bushfield was training for it, as opposed to doing moguls with the Canadian Freestyle team.

 
newschool skiing would get a lot bigger if it was in the halfpipe because people would see that its cooler then snowbaording and then they would start to ski instead starting to snowboard

i think putting freeskiing in the olympics will kill the attitude of newschoolers like us. I like how freeskiing is a individual sport, when you go out to ride it you go out to have a good time. Even the pros ski for fun, most of the time. but when you introduce a sport to the olympics people start training for the event for years. Im afraid that the attitude of freeskiing will change and we will end up with a perspective like gymnastics. I spent 7 years at woodward and watched gymnast train, and it doesnt look like they have any fun. They goto the gym everyday and get haggard by the coaches. They rarely cracked a smile. I dont want the same thing to happen to freeskiing.

 
The FIS is definetly opening up and allowing change for the better to happen to our beloved sport,I say what they are doing is for the better.

inverts have been allowed since season 2002-2003. this season they allowed also straight front and backflips which were forbidden last season. the new tricks don't play such a big role that you would assume. old school tricks still score very well, they are quite technical. also the back flip is a good thing for the older guys because it's easy and it gives a nice amount of points.

 
FIS isnt allowing change for the better for our sport. They see that they're way behind what all the pros are doing and try to catch up but fail miserably. None of the skiers have any style in the air, they all look the same. FIS is all about who has their arms and legs in the exact right position whether it looks good or not. True, our skiing would get a lot more exposure if it was in the olympics but then it wouldnt be as unique. Right now newschool skiing is kinda in league with skateboarding in the sense that people know it exists but not many people know how big the world of freeskiing is. Right now we're an elite group that all share the same love and passion for the sport. FIS takes away the passion, because theres too much focus on winning rather than having just fun.

A lot of the pros don't want Skiing halfpipe in the olympics, they say there's no need, the X games is were its at, like 3ski6guy0 said the x-games are the olympics for freestyle skiers

hmm destory i think your right about the FIS. I thought about it and the FIS is basically watering down our tricks, and creating a perfect image for each trick, none of these images incooperate style therefore watering them down to an arieal(sp?) jump.

If freeskiing was in the olympics...

i envision a world where 90% of the mountain is a terrain park, and tree jibs are in the woods. every ski has two tips, except for race skis, and the top carving skis. Everyone who skis skis in the park and conisders themself a freeskier. Freeskiing is no longer cool, and newschoolers becomes like an AOL chat room(really twisted people) White trash now starts to ski. Worst of all racing is now cool.

And all the original neschoolers move to Chile and ski happily ever after....

 
alot of skis are starting to have a slight tail, so its already happening a bit. either way, i think id enjoy moving to Chile

i think that we cant all hang on to the underground image of newschool forever, as much as we hate it, if newschool is as awesome of a sport as we think it is it will go mainstream

whether that will be the death i dont know but the sport will change in the future

 
our sport will grow, no doubt... well unless we end up like the hot doggers. Anyway, i think we can still keep our culture in skiing. For example, by not subjecting our sport to the olympics, we can keep out all of the olympic ideals that come with it. Such as vigerous training, people starting the sport for reasons other than fun, and excessive coaching of our sport. Although when our sport does become mainstream, i hope that it will be strong enough to stay true to its roots. As long as the pros stay true, i think the kids following will too.

i think it would be good to have the halfpipe skiing on display at the olympics just for one time only. it would give new school skiing a ton of exposure and make it grow more without becoming too regulated.

 
that rule has been around for a year or so, its not new news. ppl are throwing some crazy shit in the moguls, at camp i saw a guy throw a dspin 10 in the moguls.

and the moguls tricks dont have 0 style, they have shitloads of style. MOGULS style. they have to work so hard to get their tricks looking completely textbook. they arent allowed to differ from what the tricks are supposed to look like. which means u wont see any pep, tanner, pollard, chrichton, olenick etc. etc. style from mogul competitions, u'll just see moguls style. the trick peformed exactly how it is shown in their little trick book or whatever they have.
