I had first comment on his instagram... Tanner is a legend but he can not go around dissing on everyone with a different skiing mind-set.

I agree though Tanner got pooped on, but honestly what else do you expect from Tanner? This isn't the first or last time he'll say what's on his mind and I respect him for that. However at the same time it's super disrespectful and selfish that he doesn't really think of other people when he says this shit. T-Hall is a sick skier but when it comes to dealing with people he's not so great.

Has anyone read the jaded local in the last issue of Powder?? It's pure gold. "Good for the sport, Progress the Sport, Represent the sport, etc..." shut the fuck up. it's skiing, we slide down the mountain to have fun. it's simple.
i'm all aboard the "fuck the olympics" bandwagon. and i really just wanted to drop my orange name in here.
 
Tanner doesn't like the fact that Walter Wood is representing our sport to the masses. Thats his opinion. big fuckin deal. Walter's a big boy. Im sure he can handle it.
 
y'all are reading into this way too much, all he did was ask if Walter Wood is even on the team. Nothing about God, or hating his style or any of that shit.

I think Tanner Hall is a legend and now that he is fading, he just wants to end in a bang and maybe for him that means not giving two shits about anything and just doin what he wants. I still have resepect for him and my respect went up for Torin when he spoke up, because in the end there is nothing wrong about talking what you believe in.

For all of you who saying you're getting sick of Tanner's "fuck yeah I'm T-Hall I do what I want"... isn't that what we're all aspiring to do with skiing, doing what we want. Tanner may say that he doesn't care what people think but whether or not this is truth it shouldn't matter. Skiing is all about not giving a fuck what others think, that's the beauty of the sport. However, if you are worried about what people think of you than I'm sorry that you're not having as much fun as the rest of us.
 
Except when First Drop makes an edit, then all of a sudden people decide that skiing needs to be professional and the stick needs to be back up their asses.
 
Props to Riley Poor. Read that comment in class and cracked the hell up. People are still throwing dirty looks my way, but it was completely worth it.

As for the issue, I think Jen Hudak cut to the root of it with her first comment. That was some pretty on point analysis. Tanner's original tweet/instagram/whatever seems like classic reaction formation.

God the better part of me wants to call Tanner an arrogant uneducated punk who is full of himself because of his past success and it pisses me off. But, then I think about it. As much as it's crude and offensive, it's freeskiing's past. This is our roots. We're just a bunch of self-righteous hooligans whose sole connection is that we have an unconditional and undying love for the mountains and the snow. We can try to revolutionize ourselves and make ourselves more presentable to the public and try to bring publicity to the sport, but fuck it- what are we if we don't remember where we come from? We're outspoken. Deal with it. Tanner knows he's the shit, and he is. He's an incredible skier. He's revolutionized progressed the sport beyond imagination, but he certainly hasn't lost track of its allure.

I dunno, I guess the bottom line is that we're a community of rowdy dicks who love the sport and don't give two fucks about what anyone else thinks. I'm down with the cause!
 
maybe I'm off-base here, but I don't think Tanner was making fun of WW's religious views. Looks more like a typo of "God knows what"

I still idolise T-hall and have respect for what he's done for the sport and as a skier. I also get that he thinks its funny and believe that you cant take everything seriously. However some of his comments remind me of a large amount of the younger cohort on this website.
