in an old austrian ski movie called the fox chase i believe a guy had old wooden twin tips, this is in the 1930's mind you

there have been 'twin tips' since the 20's but just because they're bent up in the back doesn't mean they are actual twin tips. they weren't tipped that much in the back, just as much as say some of the volants are nowadays.

k2 had a twin tip before the teneighty they were the poachers, and there is a new model of the olin mark IV's out

lj5, yo dude, before you start giving me crap about being a newbie. . why don't you check the date I registered. its about two months before you. I'm not saying I'm an old school member or anything. . but just cause I don't have a big mouth and post a lot like you, doesn't mean that I don't read a lot of the posts.

lj5 was joking, which is why his post wasn't deleted.

Yep- Olin Mark IV technically came first, although I'm sure there were skis tipped up at the tails before it, and I'm sure people rode backwards on them as a joke. The first 'modern' twin tip was the K2 Poacher.

who cares what it was, are you gonna go out and buy them when you find this valuable information out? no......

Seize the carp

Ross E Knoll by Rossi was the first new twin-tip as far as I know. Yes before the friggen 1080 and im pretty sure before the poacher. Watch State of Mind and you will see them. Fairly short though. Also, a company called Deeluxe (I believe) seemed to be the first ones to reintroduce the concept, but whether or not they made any actual skis, I dont know. This was in the old Boards in Motion mag.

go watch some old ballet skiing. those guys had twins back in the 70's

the 1080, if u get freeze look in the DEC. issue. it talks about it in SPRAY. they were gonna call them the cloudsplitters but the name wasn't cool with riders i believe

-one love

it was definately NOT the 1080.

As was said before, the Poacher was before that, and Rossi had one also, i cant think of the name of it. they didnt have equal tip/tail height, but they had turned up tails. And again, Olin had the Mark IV in the '70's, and there have been wooden 'goon skis' with turned up tails since the '20's or '30's.

The first production model twin, was the Olin. Before the teneighty and before LINE made long skis, there was the K2 Poacher out in 96-97. Way too soft and too short, but the idea was there. Rossignol also had the...fuck...I forget the name, but it was twin-tipped, way too shapped and too short. It was white with a little cartoon fat kid on the tail. The Teneighty had it's debut atop the podium at the very first US Open in 97-98.

Schmies is right on the money, no need for anymore arguments in this thread......

Fuck you hip hop just started, its funny how the most nostalgic cats are the ones who were never a part of it

^^the first one...what was it like?

XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx

Yeah it's true.. I heard the Bush administration now controls 80% of the worlds magic.

I said it earlier too, but the Rossi one was called the Ross E Knoll. It was short, but fairly wide, but it was a true twin as the tail was rounded and was just as high as the nose.

Did the poacher have a round tail cause I cant remember it?

That Ross E Knoll was shapped like a gay ELAN carver, minus the four inch tall mounting blocks. The Poacher had a regular semi-squared-off tail that was raised and thus twined. The initial graphics were the same as the first El Caminos. The 'retro' woody style, but reversed front to back. The second offerings were the same as the second Camino, black with red logos and subtle design elements reminiscent of a car. Szocs and others tried in vain to get them to lengthen and stiffen the ski and eventually it was released again as the Pipeline, with seemingly nothing changed. K2 sat on a good idea for a bit until the success and reaction to the Teneighty sparked a renewed interest at creating a twin tip. Thus the first Enemy was born off the chasis of the famed Explorer midfat. Wow, I should be a history professor.

its the olin mark IV, I have a pair in my basement, they are old, orange and bought during the 70's so find me a 1080 from the 70's or a pair of LINEs from that era and i'll give you the benefit of the doubt, until than its OLIN!

the magazine is called 'POWDER' cool! - my stupid non-skiing friend

They are a burnt orange color, and in plain font say OLIN MARK IV

If any of you would have taken two minutes to read all posts previous, you would have come to the realization that there is no longer any discussion pertaining to the origin of the first twin tip. That has been proven and documented repeatedly as being Olin, even within this thread. We were talking about timeline on later twins.

Hey west get your head out of your ass, you seem to be the biggest ass hole i know, if you dont like something someone says then dont say anything, but anytime someone says something you dont like, you fucking whine about it, do everyone else on this site a favor, and shut the hell up.

A) YOU GUYS ARE ALL WRONG

now that i have ure attention. The first purposely built twin tip was the olin mark 4, the first newschool skis were the line kris ostness dragon, and salomon 1080. HOWEVER the first ever skis, believe it or not, were twin-tips. Vikings would take the pieces of wood from wine barrels to attach to there legs with ropes, and hence the first skis were made. Since wine barrels were curved at both top and bottom, the first skis were twin tips.
