First Time Ever Skiing

Hey guys this is my first post on newschoolers but I've had this account for a while now. I am 16 years old and I've been snowboarding for a few years but at the end of last winter I decided that I wanted to try skiing. I am a fairly good snowboarding (claim) but I'm really hoping that I'll be able to pick up skiing pretty easily. I wakeboard and waterski during the summer and I play a lot of hockey. I am also anticipating doing a lot of all mountain skiing and not limiting myself to just park skiing. I am really getting into skiing to just try something new and I am mostly focussing on going out and having some fun with my friends. But I would also really like to be able to do some decently good tricks in the park. So I was curious if anyone could help me set a few goals for myself to try to accomplish at the end of this upcoming winter?

Thanks for any help!

hello and welcome, i too made the switch from snowboarding. as far as goals go i think you already have the best one set "try something new and I am mostly focussing on going out and having some fun with my friends."

maybe try a couple 3s and be able to slide rails. id focus more on skiing than park for your first year.

Thanks for all the responses! I was defiantly thinking I should focus more on being able to ski the whole mountain first before trying anything to crazy in the park.

Being a hockey player is really gonna help you learning how to ski and yeah take your time to learn to ski the whole mountain and then make your move to the park

Spot on with what he said here. " having fun with friends" it will make your learning enjoyable and feel effortless! Learn and practibe all your basics , footwork, balance, control, do you can confidently dominate the hill. Really cruise groomers, and practice hard edges turns . Linked turns together, carve like a racer. Then you can carry these fundamentals to chopped and off piste terrains . Practice the bumps a ton! It will build leg strength and ability to adjust to quickly changing conditions, slope angle and steepness! When you have these skills fine tuned to perfection, you wil have so mucho the control and balance in the park ! And most of all you'll have fun doing it the whole time ! Find a racer chick who rips and try to keep up with her ! She'll teach you how to really set an edge and carve!

Learn to ski the whole mountain. Try 180s everywhere from flat ground to small jumps. Then enter the park and learn
