First time buyer of twin tips---Need Advice (already searched)

I am looking to buy some twin tip skis to replace my Atomic SX:11s (they don't land switch too well :) ). From reading magazine reviews and looking online, I have narrowed it down to the Volkl Karmas or the K2 PEs. I heard that they were stiff, but how stiff are they really (compared to my race skis). I don't want something that is floppy. Unfortunately I can't demo either ski so I would appreciate any advice on the matter.

I live in the Midwest, and I may be living out East next year. That means that they will have to be fairly good on ice & groomers. They also need to be quick in the trees. I am 6' and weigh 170 pounds and can ski Michigan double blacks and Utah blacks (if that helps).

P.S. How much do you think I could expect to get for my Atomic SX:11s? They are in really good condition (skied less than 14 days). Also, where are good places to sell skis?

P.S.S. How low do ski shops usually go with prices in the late winter?

The karma will be a ski that is more expensive and probably a bit stiffer than the PE.

The PE is a less-expensive but still sick ski for riding around around the mtn/park.

those are both good choices but if u ski powder ur goin to need a fatter ski than that..u might wanna look at the head mojo 90s awsome ski in and out of the park and it will last u a long time also i hear mojos are awsome on ice.U can take a look at the atomic triplets to they are skimilar to the atomic tweaks which is pretty much a race ski with a twin tip the edges are very sharp and there fairly stiff if u dont butter with them.

i ski out east with the karmas they r still decent on groomers and ice im 6'1 and weigh 177 and the 177 karmas r good

i live in the midwest to! you really don't need more than the PE around here.

P.s. i have last years in great shape with p10 bindings for sale

look @ the line skis too they rule for all conditions try the chronics. the karmas are $$$$$$$$$!!! dont spend that much on a twintip that you could get 1/2 the price for

both are not going to be as stiff as the sx:11. that is a race ski, well, a ski cross ski. from my experiences, the karma is a bit stiffer than the PE, but has easier manueverability. Both are quite durable, and the dimesnions are comprable, so no worries there. if price isnt too much of a concern, karma is a really good choice. PE is good also, and is more likely to be cheaper, especially at this point in the season. many shops have sales around now to reduce stock so look around. and at your height and weight, get a longer ski. there are too many shop shmucks that will recommend some tiny ass ski. if PE, go with 179 (longest) and maybe a 185 karma (might have issues in trees) so a 177 isnt a bad choice either.

as for selling your skis, dont bother here. try tgr forums or ebay, although im not sure there is a high demand.

and yea

any twintip will be more forgiving than sx11s.

i spent a week on pe's and theyre pretty solid all over. they grip well on soft-hardpack (if that makes sense) but they dont like ice much.

theyre plenty fat for anything less than knee-deep pow, and at your size you should break out some 179s

the karmas are super burlel bro I've never Ever heard anyone mention breaking them and that is rare these days. They're 40% off at sierrasnowboard.com

Thats $417. Get them while they last. Coming off a dope carve ski most other twins will let you down bro.

to the best of my knowledge, to get the stiffest twin possible you should be looking at head.

between the two you mentioned however, i've heard lots of great things about both, but i'd go with the PE cause i know people with them and they absolutely love them.

dont listen to this. lines suck they delam constantly and break. go with the PEs. i have them and i live in the midwest too but i also ski out west and they are ok for powder. they have a good edge for a twin also. but when getting them mounted get them 1 in. back from core center otherwise they suck. i race too so take my word for it these skis are nice

karma/pe are too fat for ice, if thats what your mainly on, get the chronic regular or ar5, when i went from race skis to twins i was craving a softer ski but you might like a hard ski i dunno just thought id say that

edge to edge won't be a problem at all with an 85 waist, i have a 92 waist on my arvs and i feel almost no difference between them and my mad trix when i'm going from edge to edge.

whatevs man , first off welcome and go with either the karma the PE or the fujative whic is also made by K2

i demo'd the pe's and they seemed real chattery at high speeds, didnt carve to well on the groomers either.....i usually like to stick with k2 but i just couldnt i ended up getting the salomon foils which are not as stiff but theyre nice and poppy in the park and pipe and you can lean them over and get a nice carve out of them too.

Which SX:11s are they? are they the dark green with asymetrical tips? If so I might be interested. I had a pair of them but bent them trying to spin 360s on them. I then got them warrantied by atomic and they gave me last seasons which i recently bent again trying 360s on. I just bought a pair of fujatives.

ok, if you're coming off of race skis, get the karma dude, you won't like the PEs and you prob. wont' like most freeskis, the karmas are nice and stiff, and carve really well, hold really well on ice/groomers, have good balance, good in pow, crud, anywhere, since your coming off race skis, you know what good skis should feel like, so get the karmas you won't be disappointed

I flexed them both and both are ridiculessley stiff for a freestyle ski unless u way 200+ thats my opinion i rode this years pubes and i will tell u if i was offered those skis free i wouldnt take um (except maybe as urban skis)

yeah, from wat i hear, the karmas do awesome on the ic/groomers and im in the same boat, coming off atomic race skis (gs:9 170 bode editon, message me if interested) and i need something that can hold a carve decently,im goin for the karmas nextyear
