first season in the park

I skied from when I was 3-11 then snowboarded until now. This was my first year back on skis and I spent most of it in the park. For my first year I just got all the big kickers down, all of the rails down, 180, 360, and a bunch of grabs. Next year Im going to make sure to get cork 3's, regular 5's, backflips, and switch 3's. If this was anyones first year in the park on skis too post what you've learned?

i dont think i have ever spent a whole day justin the park let alone a whole year. i ski alot more around the mountain but i did build a kicker back a couple years ago and i mastered 3s in about 3 days but i couldnt try anything more cuz until last year i didnt have twins and last year i was all about the powder and the cliffs

well that all sounds good but i dont think your gonna get cork 3's down... at least not real ones,

maybe backseat 3's,

this was kinda my first year and i learned spins up to 7's, almost 9's, front flips, lincoln loops, 270 on and off rails, and some other stuff, o yeah i did some 50/50's

yeah you need like a fuckin 80 foot booter to do a real cork three, cork fives are way easier.

lippiat's got skillz. for my first year i learnt 180's over pretty much any table i'll hit and some grabs and baby rails

yeah, in Solidpowder, in Tanner's part, he does a really corked 3 off of a table no bigger than 30-35 ft.

Last year was my frist year in the park.

I learned regular spins up to 9s. and switch spins up to 540s. But everything I did was super ugly and hucked. I couldn't grab anything over a 540. and my 7s and 9s were ugly pieces of shit.

last year was my first year skiing., i skied park primarily, i learned some rails, 1's and 3's and alot of grabs... i just slapped on them twins and rode i think ill get hella btr next year

im not sayin you need a big table to do a cork three, but most people learn cork 3's after they have mastered most stuff, most people dont get good cork 3's down there second year in the park,

you would probably have better luck learning cork 7's and first then work your way down to 3's

Reading all of this shit makes me feel so lame...this year was my first real year in the park and all I've got to show for it are 180's and 3's...rails are sketchy and there's no fucking way I can do anything switch...something is wrong with me...I suck...LATE

I'll tell you where...someplace warm...a place where the beer flows like wine...where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of capastrano...I'm talkin' about a little place called Asssspennnnn...

this was my first year on skis EVER.... i skiboarded for a year..... and i learnt 1's 3's 5's 7's all grabbed, fakie 1's 3's and 5's all grabbed and misty 5's and sloppy 7's.... landed a few lincons.... so i guess im not doing tooo bad.... although i skiied like everyday

well, this is my first year really trying shit in the park.....

and i managed to suck miserabley.....

partly cause i was coming back from a torn ACL the season before......

anyway...

i got 180's over just about anything, and i got my nut-thyself-on-the-rail tricks down flat......

but i did get confident in the air, doing straight airs off of anything, and hucking some really big, sketchy stuff.......

but that's it......

until next season

this was my first year that i actually dedicated some time to the park. i learned 1's 3's 5's with grabs and switch 1's and 3's with grabs, no inverts, maybe next year. and i learned all kinds of rails, switch on and off, and i learned 270 offs. next year imma try 270 ons. i think i'm doing pretty good for first year, considering i live like 5 hours from the mountains.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.

this was my first year that i spent a lot of time in the park, i didnt get much on tables besides 1s 3s and 'cork 3s' but i conquered just about everyrail in our park, besides the trap

Yea, wow, after reading all the posts, i realized... hmm i suck major balls. This was my first full season skiing altogether, i picked it up ok i think. I kinda did all mtn, and then i did park too. I can ski ok switch, but cant do anything switch in the park yet. I can do 180's off most small tables...i think i couldve gotten em down way way better off of most any of the tables if I had gotten the whole rest of the season to practice em ...but nope, my friggin ACL had to tear when i attempted a 3...o well, i'll get to ski again next season

o ya, probly not worth mentioning, but i slid a little baby rail to the end of it...yea! and ate some at the end...but hey, still proud of it!! ya...uhh so there

Last winter was my first one and i did switch 360 as best. This winter was my second year and learned rodeo 7 safetygrab, switch rodeo 5 safety, 900 and other stuff

for you people saying that you suck, don't worry about it.

Don't make this a competition, different people progress differently.

Do your own thing and you will progress at your own speed. One day it just may click for you and you will be able to do so much better.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

And progression cannot be measured simply by the tricks you learn. I only learned a few new things this year. but I worked ALOT on style and grabs and slowing things down. In fact, I didnt even try a 900 this year. Style is more important to progress than tricks are.

A trick is not a trick if it doesnt have style.

gah, yah, i only really spent about a solid week in the park this whole year, but last year i learned 180's and 3's in the same day...then i did switch 1's this year and also tried to learn how to slide rails, and got more comfortable with air and straight airs and grabs and shit cuz of that silly big air comp. mostly all around stuff though, skiin powder on 1260's..hmm..

it was my first year hitting jumps (we dont got no park) and i can 540

Yeah, this was my first year, and I was only able to dial my fakie rodeo 1080's, and unnatural cork 1260's with opposite side grabs, just kidding, I barely spend any time in the park, (probably 10 full days this year) I've got a smooth 180, fakie 180, grabs, and a three sixty. I can huck myself into a d-spin, but I rarely land it. I'm very average at rails.

i only had 3 weeks in the park of the whole season, seeing as i WAS a racer...but i learned rail slides, 180 grabs and sketchy ass 3's

Some people here say that they ride park and i see some of the pics of jumps you guys are throwing tricks off of and theses jumps are like 10 foot rollers and stuff so when you say you can throw a trick at least to me you need to be able to do the trick

1) Consistently not 1 for 10

2) Be able to do it clean

3) it has to have some style meaning look good

4) Finally you have to be able to throw it with 1-3 on a 40 ft table or step down something with size cus its a whole different game throwing down on 10 footers verse 30 + foot hits.

Im not knocking anyone just be carefull what you say you can do and i know that 10 foot kickers is all you have access to.

nine_milla_killa has a great point here.

If you work on style and control off jumps then tricks will come easy.

But if you just try hucking yourself into advanced tricks when you don't have the control and style then you are always going to be struggling.

Make style your friend.

And to the kid trying dspins who is just throwing 360s.. slow down. Work with where you are at. If you are getting tired of 360s then step it up. try a 360 off a 70 foot table and add some style into it. then maybe a 540, and then the next step.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

all I'm saying is that there is plenty more things for you to do besides trying to flip right now. But who knows, flips may be easier for you than spins.

And remember the whole thing about style. A trick doesn't look complete without it.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

Style - the indistinguishble skill that separates skiers. Style can't be taught, it has to be learned through experience and lots of jumping.

But think of it this way...

Tanner Hall, whether you like him or not, is one of the most renowned skiers in the business. He himself said that he never bothered with style until he had a big trick list. He built up a ton of tricks that he could do, and once he was comfortable 'hucking' them he slowed it and developed each trick into a stylie manuever.

Instead of trying to develop skill and style together, develop the move by being able to land and once you're comfortable with it - then work on putting some flow and style into it.

Just a differeny way of thinking...

yes, and I agree with you..that you have to push the limits and try new things.. even if the trick doesn't look good the first 50 times you throw it, you can add style into it afterwards.

The point I'm trying to make is that you should not concentrate so much on textbook tricks and just get comfortable with jumps and develop control. Control where jumping is effortless and you have your own STYLE. Where you are doing your own thing. once you are at this point it will be so much easier to do any trick you want.

Eat. Sleep. Breathe. Ski.

EC and Ghost Dragon are exactly right. This was my first year, and even though i wasnt throwing 9's, i could throw up to 540 with any grab you would ask me to. I never learned inverts, and the season ended before i could cork. The only thing im saying is that this topic really isnt for us rookies to brag. once you throw something with style, then it's in your bag of tricks.

This was my first real year in the park. I can do 3s natural, unnatural, and switch. Nothing bio'd or corked, but cabbed yes. ive landed 5s about a dozen times...didnt even try that one till late april...and ive landed switch 5s a few times. as far as rails....not real impresive, but i can do kinked rails and whatnot. In the pipe i kinda suck, but i can get air at least.

this was my first year, i learned 180's 360's switch onto rails, switch 5's and reg 5's

but shit i gotta get hella better cuz right now not too good

TRY EVERYTHING EVEN IF IT MEANS KICKING YOUR OWN ASS

im about the same as him ^... excpt i learnt misty 5's and more rail variations....
