First run on a powder day

I'm not asking anyone to give up their secret stashes (unless you really want to) but when you know there is a big storm coming and you get up nice and early and see 15 inches of freshies (sorry east-coasters) on the snow report, what's the place you've got in your mind before you even leave the house.

Royal Elk Glade at Beaver Creek

i make a big jump in my back yard and try my new stuff!! my favorite spot is alta and a basin :)

Well, no one will be at my resort so. Sierra Summit. I either usually start up chair one, take a run under the chair down to chair 5, up to east bowl, drop the big cliffs, repeat until too tracked, then duck into elevator for a few runs, then hit up Juniper. That is a typical pow day for me.

Haha yeah I don't anyone is at eldora but I go up the base lift, take a left and head on over to Jolly Jug glades. Then I usually cut to the other side of the run and hit pretty much all the tree runs

I have any slope around 25+ degrees in my vicinity on my mind. First run is just incidental though, because most of the time where I ski the best days are when it's snowing pretty hard, and not many people who ski there go out when it's overcast or snowing, so I get fresh runs all day.

streight to the cliffs and steep inbounds runs, when those are cut up its off to the bc for some secret stash time

i'm an east coaster, so i don't get a lot of huge pow days, but on pow days i always take the lift going up to the back peak on my little mountain, and ski down the area where the lift runs. there's a few sick drops and a giant kicker since it's not meant for skiing. then i'll might do some glades, especially beyond the boundaries of the run or in different secret areas which have huge stashes among trees.

At Northstar, top of Lookout poma-lift, look up to your left.
At Vail, I can find pow stashes inbounds and out of bounds around Blue Sky all day. Or, Chair 3, turn left, left again, then right past that lodge at the top, up the road over there a little, then turn left into epic tree skiing.

we get snow on the ec also...first run is at magic mtn on a real pow day and i ski everywhere because there's nobody else on the mtn
but first run is always right underneath red chair

after a big dump? links line, at least twice. it's got everything - under the lift, some trees, some cliff bands with small to large options with everything in between, steep with good run out zones and a full run down the mountain with cat tracks, drops, chutes, pow covered moguls, gullies...

...then off to the trees to hit cliffs all day around the mountain.

well, that is all based of course on a normal wind pattern for the storm. if the wind was blowing from a different direction as per usual, I'll go to wherever the wind put the snow ('cause we've got all aspects, all from one chair... yea, that's right)

likewise. my choices are dependent on many elements, including time of year (some runs are shitty/bush city or too tame depending on the time of year), the storm pattern, temperature, day of the week (expected crowds), blah blah.

at nothstar the stash and at sierra it a secret and friends will bury me up to the neck in snow if i say anything

2 quick park runs to try and huck some stuff off the jumps into pow

then off to the trees for the rest of the day

At Vail either: 1. Haul ass to genghis khan and drop the cornice full speed into the open run or 2. Track out anything and everything under the Northwoods lift before its too crowded

At Donner it was always straight over Palisades either South or running Mitzys or Chair 1. Maybe over to Chair 4 to get in the trees or building a ramp into the wall on North trail and hucking into the stashes there Then hiking out past ASI for near on endless fresh.

Crested Butte - 1st High Lift to pencil chutes or big chute, then North face lift to Fredo's cliff huck to start, low entrance to High Life, then the Edge, then Sock it to me/Mini Hourglass. There is no better lap in Colorado.

Red Chair FTW! Its even better when you're getting first tracks and everyone riding up on the lift is watching you with envy.

Then hike flats to the lift all day. Waterfall is sick, so i alot of shit at WC but it is so damn flat after anything sick it gets so annoying, you get stuck all time.

well i always hit it first because 2 runs later it's shitty and skied out, everyone skis itbut in a foot of fresh when you get first tracks it's amazing, you can just rip it. after red chair i just hit the trees

"2 stroke oil and braaaaap right after 1st tracks on chair 22 at Mammoth"

Haha yeeaaa!! You read my mind Bernie...BBAAARRRAAAPPPP
