First rail attempt

this sunday i'm gonna try my first flat bar rail... should i come in straight on to it or hit the jump to the side of the rail to get on

straight on, knees bent, legs shoulder width apart and i cant say this enough, DONT LEAN BACK or you'll eat it.

look at teh end of the rail and it's better to fall forwards than backwards because you can break your fall

what everyone else said, and make sure you have your skis at a good 90 degree angle with the rail, less chance of sliding off to one side.

Use a wide stance, if your feet are too close together you are almost gauranteed to slip out and fall back. keep tour eyes focused on the end of the rail. If you feel like you are going to fall off try to jump off, this will allow you not to eat shit as hard. Good luck. Its really not that hard. Be confident!

Make sure to have a good, solid athletic body position. When you fall, you will realize that it's not that bad to fall, and you will get up and do it again until you grease that sucker.

oh then it shouldnt be to bad just keep the rail between your legs pop at the end of the jump turn the 90degrees keep a wide stance bend the knees a lil and stare at the end of the rail, oh and dont lean back, it should be easy COMMIT!

when you come up to the rail, have your feet on either side so that if you went straight you'd nut yourself. when it's time, pop up and spin 90 and land on the rail, keeping your knees bent and eyes at the end of the rail. the slide should feel a little unnatural and you might slide off to one side, but if you commit and keep trying you'll be golden. good luck :)

make sure you pop a bit and spin 90, try to land solid on and make sure you commit, its the most important part. If you don't commit fully your going to eat shit garaunteed

believe in yourself... no but really, make sure you rotate at least like 70 or 80 degrees on or you might eat it. And also, make sure to lean more forward than you think. Just don't lean back and make sure tto keep a wide stance.

I always ask Jesus nicely if he'll help me out before I slide a rail. He's usually pretty good about it and gives me a hand.

well if the rail is high enough to rack urself would reccomend coming in from the side and just sliding acrossed the rail not really down it. But if it is pretty low to the ground come in straight on the takeoff have your feet square with your shoulder and then commit jump up hard and do a full 90 don't go half way commit!!

make sure that your are not backseat and that you turn teh full 90 degrees onto the rail because then u will eat shit...and commit rails are easeier than boxes sometiems and you will have no problmes if u can do boxes u got it man

go straight on, pop up a little while turning ur hips to the side u'd feel most comfortable on, rite as u are about to land on the rail edge forward, dont lean sideways, or u'll slide off and hit ur hip, once on just go for the ride, and keep balance, then be sure you can turn to switch or whichever way u'd feel better landing, then stick it, and say "BITCH PLEASE"

basically what every1 else said. i think u may find rails easier tho, atleast i did. yeah they are smaller and u can slide off easier, but i find that they are waaaaaay better to slide on, so once u get on it feels reeeally smooth.

werd, they can be intimidating but once you get them you wont be able to get enough. just pop. keep your eyes on the end of the rail and bend your knees to stay low

First time OVER EXAGGERATE putting your weight on your front foot. Its natural to want to lean back, but commit and lean way forward. After a few times it comes naturally so you dont even have to focus on it. But firt few times WAY FORWARD

i had the problem of not spinning full 90's due to not committing, make sure you complete your turn or you can have a pretty nasty fall.

on the jump before the rail, if the rail could extend, you would wanna be straddling it before you get on and turn 90. this is the best way because it makes you commit that much more.

WHen I first started to slide rails, I would always fall on my ass and get hurt. LEAN FOREWARD! I also broke my tailbone at the end of last season. Worst injury ever because it fucking hurts to sit down.

that was a good example....longboard or skateboard, i have never thought of that...

if you have that then give that a try....

the first time i did rail, i wasn't forward enough and i just slipped back and landed right on my ribs and got the wind out of my lungs, sucks, but got on it the 2nd time made it half way, then 3rd time i cleaned that bitch...

PICTURE IT LIKE THIS: Picture running at a skateboard and jumping onto it smoothly so that you glide away. That's how you should approach and balance your weight on a rail. Make it smooth.

And yea, approaching it straight on is much easier

commit commit commit, dont stand up straight beacause youll fall back, if anything lean more forward because its much easier to have your skis slip out from under you be falling back than it is to catch an edge from leaning too far forward.

oh yeah, and dont pop too hard. only pop enough to just get onto the rail, when i first started hitting rails my problem was popping way to hard and landing too hard on the rail.

its all about finesse
