First Drop question

So I'm doing a project for my entrepreneurship class involving an entrepreneur that I look up to or that inspires me and, being a skier I chose David Lesh and First Drop. One of the subjects I have to cover is "Is the enterprise or business public (shares in the company can be purchased by the public) or is it Private (the company is owned by a small group of individuals)? I'm assuming that FD is private but if anyone thinks otherwise let me know!!

FD is private.

Also to the hater above, Lesh started something successful from the ground up. Don't dish dirt until you can say you've accomplished something of the same magnitude.

I'm not really inspired by the way he carries himself day to day but I'm inspired by the fact that he took next to nothing and turned it into a successful business.,,so now he can afford to flaunt grills, chains and hookers

It's not like he accomplished a whole lot. He started up a shitty outerwear company that isn't a whole lot successful.

I've been skiing in Colorado, Utah, and Cali for the last 5 years of my life and had a pretty awesome position in the snow sports industry for most of it. I'd say thats just as accomplished, if not more. So suck it.

i think you are under-estimating how hard it is to get such a prominent name in the industry. its much easier to get hired at an already existing company, than to build one from nothing

the funny thing is that the "lesh" you think you know is merely a persona.

one that makes him alot of money.

ball hard dave,

after almost 4 years of membership on NS, how are you still this annoying. that usually subsides. i have only been a member for a bit more than 2 but good lord.

oh, im sorry do you fly YOUR own airplane to go skiing? did you start your own outerwear company?

no, no you didn't

being jealous is ok, being a doushebag isn't

Does that make it unsuccessful? Because here we are discussing it. We are talking about the company foundation not the quality of the product

talking about the company foundation? there's nothing more important in a business than quality of product. the quality sucks and for that reason won't be getting "virtika" (stupid name) anytime soon

The FD / Virtika is private. David owns 100% of the company he started from the ground up with his own money.

^LOL at the clown who thinks submitting an application or resume to get a job in the "industry" is as big of an accomplishment.

I am positive you don't have any knowledge to back up this statement. There are only a handful of us who have the new Triple L at this point.

I Lie it a lot actually. Fits me great, very well made, high quality, I like the thinner feel with less insulation.668698.jpeg

No you guys...pretty sure First Drop is traded on the NYSE. Aren't they on the S&P 500? I have heard a share goes for around $500,000, invest now!

Yah just had their IPO today. Outshined twitter and everything. Valued at 350 trillion dollars.

No he obviously doesn't know you, and I'm sure he's glad he doesn't, because you sound like Grade A asshole to me. His point is that whatever you did in the ski industry, whether it be lifty, ski patrol, cashier, instructor, anything, does not compare to Lesh in the fact that you got hired. Lesh put his own money into something he wanted to create and has gotten farther than anyone who has skied CO, UT, and CA has. Just because you hopped around the West and got a job every winter doesnt mean shit. I've been skiing Tahoe, UT, WA, and OR for my whole life, does that make me more successful than Lesh? God no. So until you can tell us what you've been doing in the ski industry that's so self righteously important, fuck you

Lesh is quite an awesome dude. Ran into him on a saturday night at a bar in Denver. Dude sat and talked with me for 5 minutes or so and was a joy to talk with. Guy has his head on right. He knows what sells......sex, drugs, and rock & roll.

i'll be the first one to admit i had a hate on for the first drop clown suit. then i bid on one at a silent auction for a good cause and i got a good deal. first thoughts were to sell it but then i began wearing it and i was amazed how much i liked it.

when i had a small issue with a tear in the pants (from my own fault), i contacted first drop and they paid to have it fixed. no big outerwear company is going to help you like this especially if you didn't buy it from an authorized dealer.

hate on this company all you want but these guys are doing it right. lesh started this company from nothing, their customers get put first, they love this industry and they support it.
