First Day Skiing

I've been living over seas for 7 years now, previously living in Kuwait (Middle east) for 2 years and now Shanghai (China) for 5. I don't really like it due to the lack of outdoor sports and of course, lack of skiing. I spend hours each day watching ski edits and waiting to move back and ski I honestly don't know how I made it this far....

My parents recently got jobs and are moving to Switzerland next year (just my luck eh), so we came over here to check out property and places to live. A few days ago we got the chance to go up to the hill which was my first day skiing in 7 years, previously I had skied one day 5 years ago but I'm not really going to count that. (last time I skied a full season was 11 years old).

I was so stoked to go up to the mountain and ski, also next year I'm going to be moving up to Squamish studying Wilderness Leadership and will be able to ski Whistler which I absolutely cannot wait for.

I went up to the mountain not knowing what to really expect, nervous if I would still enjoy it as much as I used to and if I really want to do this as a job basically basing my future off of decisions that I think I will like.

Got up to the mountain strapped on my shitty skis that i was borrowing from a family friend and got ready for my first run. I went into the terrain park and previously never trying rails I went down getting ready for my first feature I would hit. I landed on the rail and instantly fell back eating shit. Hard.

I cruised down to the end of the run and thought to myself "fuck maybe I really am not cut out for this but I'm not giving up" So i went up and tried another rail, this time the box. Same thing happens I fall back and land on my ass. I decided to myself fuck rails, I'm just going to hit the jumps.

After seasoning some of the terrain park for most of the day and hitting the smaller ones I tried some of the medium sized jumps and found them not to be too bad. (I'm pretty bad with speed and didn't honestly know how fast to go). After awhile I wanted to stomp a 360. Hit the jump and managed to land it first try, I was super stoked!!!

At the end of the day I was so pumped on skiing I just wanted to do it again, even if I could hardly walk. Can't wait to move to Whistler next year and ski and have some fun... been waiting to damn long for this to happen.

Just wanted to share my stoke with everyone, probably most people will TL;DR and thats fine but those who liked/read it thanks :)

DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT THINK I AM GOOD. I AM SIMPLY SHARING MY STORY AND STOKE FOR HOW MUCH FUN I HAD AND WANTED TO SHARE IT WITH SOMEONE. I KNOW I DO NOT HAVE TOM WALLISCH STEEZE.

Thank you :)

Wheeeeww!! Stoke!! Good for you man, just keep at it and you'll get better and have more fun everyday. Enjoy shredding in Switzerland, sounds like you need to make up for a lot of lost time on the shred sticks!

having fun like you did it what skiing is all about. and for that to be your first time skiing in so long, that was a steezy little grab on that first jump, you looked comfortable on those borrowed skis haha.

thats sick that you were able to get a three your first day back on skis from 7 years. Did you ski a lot of park before you moved?

I really enjoyed that you clarified where Kuwait and Shanghai are... us 'Merican's don't read maps good.

But hitting rails after 7 years off skis?? That's fucking awesome. Props. enjoy next season. stay stoked.

so you didn't ski for like 10 years, then you decided to hit a rail on your first day with a pair of borrowed shitty skis?

brilliant. but im glad you had fun.

yeah condensing the story would have been a bonus, but I can certainly share your stoke on moving out to Whistler, and getting pumped on skiing again even after taking some sketchy falls.

Every year that goes by, moving out to Mt Hood for the Summer becomes more of an obsession no matter the reprocussions or consequences. I just want to drop everything and go.

nice but try to hit some boxes first instead of going straight to rails and also get comfortable carving again dont just focus on park

This is awesome, good luck in the future buddy

I havent been able to ski a legit season ever, next year for me too!

wow thanks for all the comments guys! didn't except that many people to read it!! :)

hope you all had a good season and to those lucky ones up in the west coast who are still getting powder, shred on!

Be careful about shredding hard on that hip, Did the same thing, kept on it for a few days, then rancomly 2 days after I went back to school it swelled up to the size of a softball and I couldn't put weight on it. Don't mean to be a collosal boner here just making sure your shreddin safe. Congrats dude, 3's are so fun!

Awesome man. Keep on shredding and hitting the features. Almost everyone on here has gotten a bruise like that from a rail before. Ice that shit and it will heal up just fine.

yeah i been watching it, its gotten quite a lot worse actually since that photo. :(

and yeah those 3s were fun i just gotta try them on a bigger jump now! :)
