First Car.

find a used grand cherokee between 99-04 my sister just bought an 04 for 4 grand and its pretty nice. i got mine when i was 16 and i still love the thing im 19 now and it drives just as good as when i got it and i plan on having it for at least 3 more years and i ROMP on it. its a perfect first car if you ask me, safe, reliable, and fun as hell. plus they are wicked common so you can find parts for them anywhere and they're easy to upgrade.

Just my opinion here, and kinda from experience.

Well, I drive a truck that drinks gas. With gas prices not being at their "lowest" lately it is nice to have something that's good on gas.

With 3,500-4,500 I think your best bet could be just an older Honda Civic, and you could get a roof rack for your skis. I know, everyone hates on Civics, but people only hate on the ones where guys have modded them and claim that they are fast.

They're not a fast car, nor were they ever designed to be a fast car. So if you don't make pointless mods to it and just drive it as a car to get here and there with good gas mileage, no one should hate on you. I also want to point out that, I don't own one, and I never have owned one either so just letting you know these are all my opinion type of statements here.

I do know that they get good gas mileage and are pretty reliable too. It'll save you some money in the long run and really, it is a first car so you can't expect something incredible, unfortunately. If cars are a passion of yours and you like working on them and turn out to be a car "enthusiast" type of person, then what you should do is get a Civic or something along those lines to get you to work, and to the mountain. Then you should try to save as much money in the years to come that you can. Just whatever you don't spend on skiing or gas, save it. Then in a few years you'll have all this extra money and could buy an awesome car. I mean, in the future after you save for AWHILE you could even buy a used STI or WRX or something awesome.

Just throwing out some ideas here. Take them lightly or "with a grain of salt" as some people say. I just want to get you thinking about it though so you think of all the options. Also, where are you located because I'll look around on craigslist and stuff for you too. Good Luck and keep us updated on how the car search goes!

^agreed. civics are a great car. but i feel hypocritical seeing as i wouldnt be caught dead in one.

if you want something fast, for 4,000 you could probably find a decent vr6 with lower mileage. just make sure its not a swap. or look for an e30 or e36 with lowish miles. my friend sold his e30 for 4,500 with 120,000 and NO rust. it was perfect.

these are just cars that come to my mind.

look for a car with decent gas mileage. with the amount of money you have, you could find a decent VW jetta or maybe an SUV. kind of depends on what kind of cars you're into as well. i wouldn't go with that acura just because it's over 20 years old. you can get a car that's less than 15 years old, a lot nicer condition and in your price range.

I should have shredded bear with you when i was down there for school....... Anyways get a 22r toyota pickup for that price. nothing big and lifted just stock 4x4.. you wont be dissipointed. I fuckin love mine.

I just got an '02 Mazda Protege for 4,300 and I love it. It's quick in the corners, and the '02 had the most powerful engine. 130hp/135ft/lbs of torque, which is pretty good for a car that weighs only 2,400 pounds. Also, it gets 30mpg.

get something that seems like itll last and gets good gas mileage. Good gas mileage is clutch especially when youre in highschool.

Oh and don't drive stupid. Don't drive stupid, don't drive stupid.

good luck

Nissan sentra, such a great little car. Great on gas and in my opinion a really well built engine, I drove the piss out of mine and the only issues i ever had with it was a bushing on the control arm going.

Well to be honest...if your that into skiing, wouldnt you want a good snow car to be safe...all wheel drive? 4- wheel drive? Idk your care...make sure everything is good with it

your on ns, therefor your a skier, hence the only option is for you to drive a subaru.

i got a 92 legacy wagon for 1000nzd it is cool

this.

i have a 2012 leased right now, and i pay 110 a month. if you can afford to put some money down, you can get a pretty good lease price. you can also look into base civics, or jettas or something too. leasing isnt right for everyone, but it is for me. as long as you stay under 15k miles or so a year, its perfect. builds credit, you dont have to worry about repairs, and everything is brand new.

Your asking all of the 12 year olds of newschoolers what kind of car they like? hmmm. Get a car that YOU like. Get one that you think will suit you. The best option for you PERIOD is to meet the person selling the car, test drive, etc. etc. Who gives a hell of what other people think of what kind of car you drive? I drive the same style car as my grandma.

Well, I have no personal preference so getting other peoples opinions does help. Also, not everyone on NS is a 12 year old. I like Subys and Evos. Im just asking around. Thanks your input, oh wait....

an older toyota pickup would be my suggestion.

yeah sure i drive a full size and i love it but i get 8 mpg, thats why im going diesel...

old 4 banger yota would be great, or if you have 4000 and your rents are going halfs you could get a decent tundra or tacoma for 8000 or less

look for mazdaspeed proteges. they quit making them in 03 so they will all be close to or withing your price range and they are a good looking sporty car. they also werent very expensive to begin with so youll get a decent mpg car with a little added kick for a low price

make sure the mods are tasteful and make sure it has been tuned for them. seems to suit your needs better than my suggestion and theres a good chance that itll be faster too

1990ish to 1994 Toyota Pickup with the 4cyl as charmander said. Incredibly tough and capable trucks that are cheap to maintain and easy to work on.

Stay away from anything with rims or mods. Yes it's stereotypical, but the cars that are nodded could have been done by some idiot who doesn't know a clue about what they did or someone who beats on their car is handing their problems off to you. If you want a forester, find one sold by some grandma, which I'm sure are plentiful, and mod it yourself and get it done right so you know what is in the car and how it got there.

Defiantly get a civic for your first car. They are super reliable, super cheap on gas. Like $40 to fill the tank and that gets you like 500ish km. I still don't really know why people hate on them. Personally I don't think they look bad or anything.

i didnt see the miles, but i fucking want one of these as a car, i love them. and you have a point... hahaha, but id be good, my dads boss has like a range rover mechanic team or something crazy like that

in regards to first link in OP (the Acura); as long as the kid actually knew how to drive stick, then that car would be a good first car. The exhaust actually helps with fuel economy, and gives you a little more power. The only issue may be that it has pretty high mileage in comparison to the asking price..

I will have a 97 4runner soon. 17 miles to the gallon, 5 speed manual, skid plates, 4WD, tons of room for gear and shit. I am amped

this exactly, plus you can throw shit into them very easily if thats what you want, not too bad on insurance, good mpg etc

find a mid 90s nissan hardbody truck with 4x4, perfect ski truck, decent offroad If it has a ka24 its decent on gas, In calgary you can find them for 1000 bucks that have less that 200 000 km . or if your not intersted in skiing with it get an s13, so much fun
