Alright, i have a very old buick century, got it for free. I get my lisence Nov. 11th and i dunno how much i should spend. I want to get a standard, anyone know any nice standards?

screw a car, gas prices will be up to 5 bucks for a gallon soon, buy a longboard from my friendm, and save what money you have.

YOU DONT EVEN HAVE YOUR PERMIT AND YOU HAVE A CAR?!?!? what the fuck is up with that. i got my fukcing permit in febuary now i have to wait till next Feb. colorado law is bullshit

Get a volvo, cheap, reliable, and My mom got hit today in ours and she/the car are perfectly fine and the other car's pretty shitty.

subarus are good ski cars but they are kinda pricey for anything with < 100k miles. honda's / acura's are cheaper plus good gas mileage... just wait for a good deal - i recommend a carfax if you have $25.

wait I thought you said you said you had a car already. don't bother for now who cares if its a piece of shit

hey! finally someone mentioned a real car!

haha, i think it's funny when all these little kids say is "buy a subaru!" and "nothing will beat a subaru's ass". it makes me laugh. you fucking morons... when you've driven the cars you rip on, then come back and make a comment.

240's are pussy shit? haha, have you ever ridden in/driven a 240? how about mine? nah, didn't think so.. twin turbo Z32 300ZX's are sweet as hell right from the factory vs. the US 240, but a USDM KA24DE-T in an S13 240SX will KILL a TT 300ZX in every aspect. they're heavy and unbalanced.

i never drove a 240 so i shouldnt assume anything but i JUST like 2 minutes before i posted was looking at a 300zx with 600hp, there is no car in the world i would rather have then that

yeah the Z33's make an assload of power, but the S15 Silvia (240SX here in the US) is the ultimate drift machine. it makes such an amazing amount of power for its size and does it with ease. check this out.. http://www.topsecretjpn.com/s15.shtml

it's the TOP SECRET S15 Silvia. powered by the JDM SR20DE-T... 2.0L DOHC 4cyl turbo. 251 hp bone stock. that gold car at the top of the page makes close to 700hp the way it sits.

behold it's glory. lol.

actually, I drive a subaru, and have driven probably more cars than you have seen in your lifetime considering my uncle works for consumer reports. so don't try to tell me I am a "little kid who says buy a subaru."

and ye its a 240. dont hate on em..they might be ugly. But they got great motors(and tractor sound :P ) and it will survive any crash. if u are lookin for a safe car, cheap car go for 240...dont go for the US version though

god damnit. fuck you guys and your fucking imports. get a big ass lifted 1976 chevy silverado and spray paint the KKK emblem on the door in honor of atlantaski.

i love when people buy 240sx's becuase they are "amazing drift cars." honestly now most people with that mindset will never do more than slide around in the rain by themselves or with a friend in an empty parking lot. you can have fun doing that with any rwd car. ill admit, ive done that and its fun but its not real drifting.

and i would suggest a manual car, lots of fun and its very useful to know how to drive one. plus youll save youself a few mpg with a manual.

riiight. i get it. you automatically assume that you have had more exposure to cars because your uncle works for some consumer report. my dad works for Vision Porsche/Audi/VW here in philly. that doesn't mean shit.. I am just as into cars as any person here and have actually driven the cars that i speak of. STi? yeah.. drive it regularly. do i like it? hell yeah it's a beast, but will it 'beat the shit out of anything'? fuck no. i could go on and on about the facts of why it or any other subaru will not simply own all other vehicles.

but, i can guarantee that i will own YOU on every topic involving a car simply because of experience. i build project cars buddy, good luck.

you're right. when people buy a single cam KA24E 240SX and leave the rear end alone and try to do one-legged "drifts" in the rain, of course that's retarded. i can do that in my blazer.

but.. when i build a KA24DE-T with an S15 LSD, i break loose 255 pirelli's like i'm on ice. there's a difference.

we build cars that can hang with the $200,000+ crowd.

yes i would agree that if you bought the car with intentions to build it for drifting purposes, then the 240 would be an excellent choice. i was just stating that there are tons of people who want one and will leave it bone stock minus a fart can and go on all day about how sweet of a drift car it is.

in reguards to the comment earlier about how subarus wont beat the shit out of every car. thats definitly true, you can make just about any car kick another cars ass if you have the money and know how to build it right. Ive seen an 80s ford fiesta(originally 3 cyl i believe, looks like a lil geo metro) with a 350 frankenstien'd into it on slicks whoop ass at my local drag strip. sure some cars are easier to build up but in reality you can take nearly any car and build it to do what u want.

however this is this guys first car, i would suggest a subaru because the awd is a great feature to have especially when learning. as far as the thing about mustangs in the snow, i have a mustang i drive it in the snow, and its very fun. sure it wont make it through a foot of snow but most low to the ground cars wont. having a manual helps and it never hurts to take it out to an empty parking lot or something and learn how to control the sliding, gas, and clutch.

you're right.. it does help a lot. the first time i ever drove a car was when i got my permit at 15 and my dad took me out in his old 89 S10 beater truck in 10 inches of snow. he told me "be careful, but have fun". lol. learning how to control the car in the worst possible conditions so early on helped me overall more than anything else. i think i'm just as comfortable and relaxed being sideways as i am going in a straight line now.

and you're also right.. the AWD of subaru will help in the snow/ice/etc., but i don't think it's a good first car. i honestly think the best first car would be an EG coupe or hatch (92-95 civic) or a B13 (91-94) Nissan Sentra. they both drive exceptionally well in the snow and shit, and are amazing cars in the summer/good weather. great gas milage, and easy as hell to work on. regardless of the whole 'import' thing, honda's are simple, straight forward, and easy driving.. same as the B13 sentra. that's what makes them good first cars.

to work on a honda/nissan and make it into a project car or just to fix it up a little and make it a perfet reliable car will give a beginner driver all the mechanic abilities that he/she will most likely ever need. and it's simple to get to that point. subarus, while still good cars, are more complicated and much more expensive to work on.. and unless you buy an 05/06 model, you WILL have to work on it and replace parts.. it's just a question of which ones and how soon.
