First backflip in the park good idea?

my friend threw his first backflip on this jump

just sacked up and went for it.

i wish it were that easy for me...

I can do a backflip on grass, but still have not tried one on snow. Would a medium jump (30-45ft) or a small jump with a lot of transition like out of the end of a pipe be good for learning them?

You actually made me laugh out loud.
1) your ticket will not get revoked. you must ski somewhere where patrollers have huge sticks up their asses2) Me and the last 3 people I taught backflips... landed them on their first try.3) Park hits are icy... if it's icy out. Wait for a day where it's getting slushy. that's just common sense
1) A mogul team? Yeah cuz every mountain has a mogul team and mogul teams are what freestyle skiing is about right? and joining a mogul team with an experienced coach is free right? You don't need a coach to do a backflip2) It's not like water ramps are a fuckin' staple everywhere. Not to mention also cost money
And you do flips only on measured jumps? and a coach by you? What are you 6? do you need your hand held while you do it?

First option to learning how to backflip: Do it out of the end of pipe. It's as lippy as you can get, and you don't fall that far if you don't make it. The biggest thing is not giving up halfway through, you'll fall on your neck that way. Just commit and go all the way. I doubt you'll make it around anddd all the way back to your neck. You might over rotate to your back but that's not that big of a deal

yupyup my first flip was in a park on the east coast in burke vermont, if any one cares but yeah i would def suggest starting on a park jump

not my first backy but first backy in the park was on a table like 5-7? feet. 15 is plenty big. you may want to huck it super hard to get around. dont. you will have a very sore back. pop look back with your head and just watch it come around

I learned my first backflip on a tiny jump, it was super easy. Super steep

lies. its important your first time to focus on bringing your knees up when you throw yourself back or else theres a large chance you'll under rotate on your first try

yeah you got it. just throw it hard off the lip and keep committing. it'll come around nicely if you do that and you'll feel like a pimp.

You don't need a big jump to throw a back flip. The first time I tried I didn't really know what I was doing so just hucked the flip way to hard, over-rotated and landed on my head. It hurt (mostly my pride), but the jump was small and I walked away from it fine. If you do this on a big kicker and land on your head the consequences would probably be worse.
Practice it on a trampoline and focus on controlling the speed of you spin by bringing your knees up/down. You'll end up with a much better sense of where you are in the air and how to control the flip if you do. You could just huck it and hope, its what I did but it didn't work to well for me. Hucking it wouldn't be my first choice way of learning but you may be luckier/more talented than I am.
Have you tried Lincoln loops before? I think they're a lot easier/safe than back flips as you can spot the landing the whole time so its easy to know where you are in the air. Also, if you screw up you normally just end up hip checking the landing which is way better than landing on your head. Maybe give these a go first and get the hang of being inverted? I also think that Lincolns lead more naturally to other tricks.

giver dude. make sure you sling it hard, don't pop and you will have to flip harder than you think. go in with tons of speed so you clear the knuckle leans back ans sling.

park jumps are the bst to learn on.

Everytime time I go to backflip on a tramp I end up doing this stupid looking rodeo thing. but I not afraid to do one on snow, but should I?

Liams tips to learn backflips.

1. stomp them on tramp so you can do them any time .

3. find a jump with good kick, or build your our because you dont need a big jump.

4. get a friend to do it first so you know its possle.

5. if he lands it then just set it and forget it. its not a hard trick you just need to commit.

6. stomp that fucker and ski away at least 100ft so it looks steezy.

step 6 is EXTREMELY important.

dont be a tool and stop 10 feet after you land and claim it. silently claim it to yourself as you ride away as if its not a big deal

Did my first one in the park. Ide say get a friend to clear the way for you to visualize it, then huck it just like a tramp. Or just go for it.

all I did was practice a couple back flips on the tramp then went into a medium sized kicker and just hucked it. my first one I threw a little hard and landed back seat but the second one I stomped. I suggest you do the same it worked fine

i still cant do backflips on tramps, so it doenst really matter, just remember to commit and think trough the trick, it doenst hurt to over spin but it does to underspin..

I stomped my first backie, after that overrotated a few, but its actually quite an easy trick, just go for it, and it's awesome fun too, not that it looks cool

I totally agree that backflip is a basic trick... but many skiers can do flatspins.. rodeo.. corks.. whithout being able to do backflips. Whatever, backflip is only a funny trick and don't even think about winning a comp with it. actually dont even think about doing it a competition.

First post :D
Anyways... I heard a lot of people say that once you get used to backflips in the pow, you can't do them in the park because you're a little scared. Because of this, I did my first backflip on a super steep lip of a step up, which I guess was a really good choice. Once you at least try it once in the park, you know you can at least get you head round, and won't be scared after you practice it in soft snow after.

Alright thanks guys, I'm definitely doing it off the 15 footer. I can do them easy on the tramp so it should be good. Im definitely thinking of doing a lincoln loop too, but backs seem to be easier to get around. And there will be no claiming, only on the lift haha

you dont need to backflip to do other stuff. i can front flip, misty, cork, and rodeo and i have not even landed a backflip

I actually learned backflips on the ground before doing them on snow I wouldn't recommend this backflips on skis are so easy I was a pussy this whole season when it came to backies but one snow day I did it off some 5ft jump didn't get full rotation but it got me confidence took it to the park jumps the last day of the season for me.

My advice: 1.just get comfy with them

2. lean back

3.stomp and afterbang

4. then claim the fuck out of it to your gaper friends

Also I wouldn't recomend learning them on the ground first I think this was more harmful than good because I landed on my neck a few times and it really scared me for trying it on skis and jumps

HAHA don't do this ^^^^ I am not liable if you do.

(just incase you couldn't tell I was joking/drunk)

I live in Ohio and know what its like to not have powder to learn flips in. Do it during spring skiing on a jumpm with a really slushy landing. I might be choppy and harder to land but its a lot safer. Tramp helps lots for confidence too. Goodluck with that flip.
