FindUrb Android App open to Public

I was hoping that when I made this thread it would be on a more positive note, but due to lack of support from the community I've decided to postpone development of this app indefinitely to resume work on my rock climbing app.

However, I've decided to open up the app's beta stage to the public. It's in a working state but only tested on my Droid X and still has some issues.

Here's a link to the marketplace if your interested.

And here's a link to the open cult.

I'll probably check it every once in a while and may preform small updates to fix bugs if people post them.

I didn't think there was a better place than newschoolers. I really wanted to integrate it into the community and even considered keeping it for NS members only.

But yea maybe i would have more luck over at transworld

create a facebook page for it. It's an incredible tool to get the word out about something, especially an app.

Definitely a good idea, I just don't want a bunch of crap getting added by people who don't understand the app. I'll probably wait until(if) I finish the release candidate, because by then there will be community support for flagging and removing bogus spots.

Also I haven't yet worked out all the legal details of the app. I know being a community driven app their are certain risks that I am taking as a developer and need to come up with a strong EULA.

I had an idea to do something like this a little over a year ago but it got hated on. People were complaining that urban spots will just get overrun by noobs and whatnot.

for all of you guys hating on the app, if you don't want to tell people where they are, then uncheck the auto upload and keep a database of your spots only, so you can remember where rails and stuff you found were in the winter.

I would have already started apple development but i don't own a apple computer. Apple requires that you must own a apple to develop iOS... kinda shit

anyone want to donate one?

yea, i'm thinking about if it gets going make it so it requires invitation from a member. and only give members invitations when they contribute to a certain positive level.

anyways, major update coming today that will have to wipe all local spot (hopefully this will be the last time but I can't make any promises until I'm out of beta).

Pretty sick. You should add a description panel about the features surrounding the rail like inrun (would it require a drop-in or bungee), outrun, and obstacles in the landing or on the sides of the rail. That kinda stuff makes a huge difference.

I considered putting in several extra fields, such as in-run, landing, equipment, and even a pig-factor. I decided to kinda just merge everything into description for now to keep it simple... maybe in the next update ill start by adding a inrun and landing field. I feel like any other details that should be noted can fit into the general description.

It's a sweet idea man. I've wanted to do something like this for longboard runs for a while now

It could honestly be refactored in a couple days to be the same app for longboarding. I won't steal your idea but I've already got a version in progress for climbing and i was thinking about doing one for street(skate, bmx, rzr haha).

Wizard. Done.

I really appreciate good feedback/suggestions. I just added new fields: In-run, Landing, and Lighting.

If you want to work together on a longboard version, Im available :) I think it's a sick idea personally.

Any java or android experience?

My current build is 8,698 lines(not including xml or php) of uncommented code. haha i need to do some seriously clean up before I even think of bringing anyone else it.

It would be a very painful experience for you

dude you got me to download it. i feel like if you could really get this going and having people upload their stuff you could get kind of a regionals section where you can seach, ex for me, id search boston mass and it would give you distances to the rail or whatever from your current location . thats something that id put in the full version. and also maybe categorize them like flat, down, drop, kinked, curved, difficulty that kinda thing but overall great idea

there is a map on it that you can find where you live and show the spots there and when you click them it shows distances

I noticed a bug when I was messing around today. Whenever your trying to create a spot, you HAVE to have accuracy of at least 16m. If you don't when you click the capture button it just won't do anything. It is suppose to prompt a message telling you the accuracy isn't good enough but I must have commented out that code for some reason. I'll get it fixed soon so update when you see there is a new verison
