Wow, so applying for college was its own adventure, but i am wondering how folks found financial aid, and/or where to look for scholarships other than guidance counsilors/local ones...

Hoping some of you can bless me with some much needed knowledge,

Thanks,

Eli

Get the scholly app. It has tons of scholarships on it nd you can filter them based on personal characteristics, geographic area, intended major, etc.

First of all be careful because some people will try to take advantage of students looking for help. The professional standard is not to charge to apply for financial aid or a scholarship application or search. Any legit help or application is free.

Have you already submitted your FAFSA? Students started applying for next school year Jan 1st with the 2016-2017 FAFSA. It is to your advantage to submit your application with estimated tax info as early as possible.

Check with every school you are considering to find out what they recommend. A lot of schools will have their own foundation scholarship application.

Check with your state to find out if they have a state scholarship application like we do here in Oregon.

Use the Dept. of Labor free scholarship search tool.

Apply as early as possible and remember to check back on each application and stay in contact because there are usually follow up steps for every application process.

Usually your schools website has an awards and financial aid section where you can apply for some online. I just applied for like 100 this way for my last year of school

this. go through your high school as well. generally theres a list of like 40 scholarships they have for the year and like 5 kids go for them. Im not sure how it works in Vermont but in Canada you can get a student loan. low interest rates, dont have to pay until your making money out of school. The shitty thing though is if your parents make a certain amount, then you wont be able to get funding until you've lived out of home for a while and are no longer "dependant" to your parents which sucks.

shitty thing about loans is you gotta pay them back. Scholarships are free money!

ride your bike around until somebody blows a stop sign and hits you, then sue the shit out of them until you can afford college.

That's the American Dream.

Still gonna have to afford your overpriced coffee and retro film which is a tuition of it's own. You better sue them for ruining your singlespeed too!

Nope, straight up white kid with working parents living in VT

Alright so i'm from VT as well and i'm about to start my second semester of my Freshmen year in college. Theres several ways to get financial aid on the state and national level. As for us Vermonters, there is VSAC (Vermont Student Assistance Corporation). In order to apply for this, which is a first come first serve basis, you must first complete a FAFSA application and apply for financial aid on the national level. You can google the acronym FAFSA and follow the steps on their website to set up an account and apply.

On top of all this, your school will most likely give you some financial aid as well.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

uvm is respectable academically and in state. they throw around scholarships to maad kids, if you did well on tests should be affordable instate.

If you're tryna leave though it's expensive, apply for all the local scholarships you can, my boy got 2k because his father had once upon a time driven school buses. Never know what you'll find. Hit up guidance counselor for sure. Other than that just hope schools come thru for you, sometimes you don't choose the school, the school chooses you.
