Finally Bode might get the boot

This reminds me of high school; "yeah i party, i drink and get wasted." Don't get me wrong, i like to party and get trashed as much as the next guy, but i don't go brag about it like i have to prove something.

Plus...the U.S. government pays for Olympic athletes to go to the Olympics, so essentially they are ambassadors. There is a time and a place for "breaking the norm", but its not the Olympics. If Bode doesn't want to win, I don't think he needs to be competing in the Olympics.

One more thing...I would say Bode's got the biggest penis up his ass out of all the racers. At least Daron Rhalves can ski outside the racecourse and lighten up a little bit more than Bode. Out of all those guys Daron's the man, and I'll be rooting for him. He's not too big into the image thing either.

WTF!? whats up with all you haters??? hes like the best around and yall wana get rid of him. no matter what yall no hes like the best for the team so there is no way there goina kick him off. sometimes these guys gotta keep there noses outa this crap. he aint breakin no rules right? so why boot him?

seems to me like Grubix has a personal problem with Bode and this was just the cannon fodder he was looking for. stop being such a fucking dick. who the fuck are you or anyone else to tell Bode how he should run his life? if someone chooses not to sponsor him, fine- there are plenty of people who would gladly put their company's name on his helmet so people see it on TV as he wins races. maybe if you weren't so jealous of his success and talent, then you would realize that he's doing what he enjoys and there isn't a single fucking person on the planet who should tell him that he can't do what he loves to do.

Seth Morrison stole a car, totalled it, and wrecked three others in the process back in the mid-90s, but you never hear about that. Tanner, as it has been pointed out on here numerous times, blazes all the time, has gone to jail for getting in a bar fight (remember that?), and picks fights with practically everyone in the industry, but i don't hear you crying your eyes out about that. Rory Silva flipped the bird to everyone watching the X-Games a year or two ago during the slopestyle comp on national TV, yet there isn't anyone upset about that. but since we're ripping on a racer who does whatever he wants to and makes tons of money in the process, Grubix, his jealousy, and his huge, smelly vagina decide to cry about it over and over again. stop being a pussy, let the guy do what he loves to do, and shut the hell up.

oh, btw, nobody but his US competitors can keep him from the Olympics. if he enters the qualifiers and makes it, even if he isn't on the US Ski Team, he goes to the games.

in my opinion, though, he's doing this for the press. at a time when we're quickly approaching an olympic games that no one really gives a shit about, people can rest assured that the events Bode is in will be some of the most-watched events of the games. if i were the network that has the rights to air the games, i'd be slipping Bode a check under the table to keep up the press.

for the record, i think his whole "i don't care if i win" attitude is a fair representation of American foreign policy at this time. we don't really care if we win anything, we're just going to go and do whatever the fuck we want. Bode is the perfect ambassador for the Bush administration.

I guess I am slightly more liberal than you. I have no problem with someone who represents the USA drinking. So I take it you are anti bush because he did drugs and anti clinton because he fucks around with secretaries. FUCK the man drinks, who gives a shit

You sound like every other sue happy conservative prude american

i just hate Bush because he's an asshole and i wouldn't mind removing his head with a high-powered, long-range rifle. Clinton's the man because he could multi-task- he got a blowjob and kept on running the country AT THE SAME TIME. Bush can't even breathe and run the country at the same time.

(for clarification, yes, i just advocated assassinating President Bush... especially now that it looks like Cheney will be leaving office)

I'm anti bush because he's retarded. I loved clinton. I just think that it's the wrong image to be sending ourselves out with.

I kinda got off on a random tangent, I guess my point was, yea he represents the US in SKIING and if the worst he does is party some and still win the world cup then what the fuck

Maybe the drinking keeps him loose the next day that way he is able to worm and wiggle his way through the gates and pull off those gnarly situations

I know when I was still drunk from the night before, wakeboarding was nuts, I could do some weird shit

^ I do not race, and I really do not have anything to be jealous of Bode about. I simply do not want a representative of my country going to Italy who doesn't even give a shit, or wants to care about what he's going there for. I take great pride in things like the olypics because they are the longest running and most prestigious athletic events in history.

I don't give a shit about what Tanner and Seth do, because what does it matter? They are not competing in a tradition that has been going on for thousands of years. Nor do they represent anything but themselves.

If Bode wants to going and have a nice little vacation in Italy and Ski with a Miller Light banner on, I wouldn't have a problem. I just don't want a guy who thinks this is some sort of joke cometing in the olympics. He thinks he can do whatever he wants when he wears that jersey that says "USA" on it. But that's not his jersey. That jersey belongs to over 200 million people. And he should know how to carry himself with some pride and authority going into this.

Danny Kass is one of the biggest punks out there riding a snowboard. But when the Olypics came around, he grabbed his balls and walked with authority and wore that USA jacket proudly. Bode can do whatever the fuck he wants after the olypics are over. I don't care, but until then, have a little pride.

And well if he goes... the Olympic village is "dry". Hopefully he won't go through withdrawl.

Actually it's been going on since 1896. That's 110 years. And that's just the summer games. The first winter olympics was 1924... Meaning, yes, there are tons of sports competitions that have been going on longer. So... you're wrong?

P.S., I assure you, Danny Kass got drunk plenty during the last olympics.

Your argument would be valid if Bode was only representing the Bush administration, but he's not. If you don't like the way the Bush administration is conducting foreign policy (and few people do), the Olympics are the perfect time for America to be portrayed in a different light. I'd rather, as an American citizen and voting liberal, be represented by someone who wants to be at the Olympics to win and have a positive attitude. If we want to keep portraying America as self-absorbed, decandent, and altogher assholish, then by all means send Bode.

Headline tomorrow:

Racer Bode Miller Follows Up Controversial Comments by Causing Political Strife on Intarweb

Considering the tight regulations on the village it would be very difficult for danny to drink. But hell if he did so be it. Danny at least cared to be there.

And I'm referring to the olypic tradition. The modern olympics only date back to the first summer olympics in Athens in 1896. But the tradition of the games began in Ancient Greece. Around 600 - 700 BC if I'm not mistaken. Thats what the modern games are based off of. Hence why the first were held in Athens.

Danny also didn't publically talk about it on prime time TV. The problem isn't that Bode drinks, anyone over 21 legally can, its just you think he could present himself a little better in public. I'm not saying he has to, but as an Olympic athlete it would be nice.

I was talking to him a few weeks ago and he told me that Budweiser wants to sign him and give him a Budweiser RV to travel around in.

The US ski team and skiers in general should be thanking Bode Miller for drawing all this attention to our sport.

If the people in control of the US ski team weren't such a lot of fucking pussies, I'd say the whole gang was in on this as a way to promote the sport.

People love controversy. Tanner Hall got more people talking about freeskiing by doing the same thing... running his mouth off. Its great, the media and public totally play into it, throwing their own fuel on the fire.

when was the last time skiing was a headline in a major US Media outlet?

Regardless of wether or not this whole thing is premeditated or not, I garuantee more people are going to watch ski racing in the olymics because of it.

Bode got drunk after he WON the WORLD CUP. He turned up for a race the next day and was still drunk. Every person in the world would get drunk if they won the world cup.

Hes also the best racer in the world at the moment and ive got more respect for him because he acts himself with the press and doesnt try to be some boring dick so his sponsers can make more money.

The only sense in which you can compare Bode to Tanner, Seth, etc... is that if you piss off your sponsors your likely to get dropped. Its that simple. Seth keeps K2 happy and he keeps getting sponsorship, same deal for Tanner when he was with Rossignol (obviously things have changed), and Bode has to keep the US happy if he wants to ski for them. Its that simple.

Royce and Butterlicous -

BODE DIDN'T SAY SHIT ABOUT TANNER!

rather, tanner talked shit, bode didn't play into it, but rahlves countered tanner's comments in his own interviews. God, J.D. already explained that earlier in this thread.

and duhamelski, rahlves is a local hero around these parts. there is no way in hell you would disrespect him if you saw him in person at squaw. just save yourself the trouble and start respecting the skier.

Exactly, and the money is so much bigger in racing. People saying that they'd never boot Bode because he's successful don't realise what a huge say the sponsors have in this situation. No matter what any of us think, to the general public bode's comments will be fairly shocking. Sponsors don't want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to be represented by someone who the public consider to be a drunken fool with not committment to his sport.

If you want to talk about TRADITION then lets get rid of all corporate sponsors and people who make money off the olympics and in the olympics. Also, wasn't the Olympics traditionally based around amateur athletes, ie. unpaid, non professionally coached and more of a celebration/festival? The olympics is losing spotlight because it is "just another sporting event" these days. Sorry for my negativity but it, just like everything else these days is about money, and as Miller said, money corrupts whether people buy it or not.

I think a lot of you people are getting carried away with his opinion on self performance as well. If he didn't want to win, or even compete, would he ski?

He just refuses to live to others standards... It seems to me that his standards may be as high or higher than everyone elses, hence his training and performance last year. If you had 200million people saying, "Bode you better win 5 gold medals this year at the Olympics, what would you say?" That kind of pressure is what drives musicians and all sorts of people to drugs and alcohol in my opinion... Let the man go and do what he will, which is most likely win...

theres no chance they will kick him off he is the only real chance america has at getting a gold in the skiing. ralves might fluke a place but its unlikely when you look at who they are up against

The whole thing about this situation that is absolutely rediculous is that bode has always been this way. I remember my ski coach telling me years ago that bode was this way, back when he was still on fischer and only just starting to make waves. furthermore, i was talking to pierre ruel, one of the team canada coached when he was doing a level 3 clinic at fortune years ago, and he was saying that they had bode rooming with the most straight edged guy on the us team at the summer camp in austria trying to get him to straighten out. if this was any team other than the us it would be a non issue, however american society in general is very conservative, and expect all thier pro athletes to fit the model of all-american good guy... fuck that rhalves finished just behind bode in the world cup standings last year, but no one gives a shit about him because he is boring. the only reason the us ski team is even on the map is because of bode. back in the day im sure guys like jean claude killy and all the other european hot shots lived large just like bode. theres even a guy on the austrian team who makes an ass of himself at the end of ever race putting on pop-concerts for the world cup spectators. and non of bode's sponsors probly give half a shit about the american markets. your lucky to get 15 000 people out to a world cup stop in the states whereas european events continually draw crowds of over 100 000, bode is on atomic, an austrian company, do you really think they give that much of a shit about the select few americans that have a poor opinion of bode? i dont. i think the controversy that is surrounding bode right now is based on the fact that he does racing his way, and doesnt fit into the us cookie cutter ideal of a ski racer, and they are frustrated that after ten or some odd years on the team they cant break him. i say let him go, he'll probly do way better and still make the same amount of money while being able to remain one of the foremost personalities in the sport today.

fuck bode, he should not be skiing, everything Tanner said he had the right to say, i'd rather have tanner representing our sport than bode...

Actually the first olympic games were held, and the tradition began in the year 776 BC. So I guess you could say it was near the time of Moses.

In these games different city states sent their best athletes to compete in games that would bring honor back to their homeland.

These are the games the modern Olypics are based on (regardless of individual sport), and are played in the same tradition. Notice how coutries compete, not individuals. Individuals become heros of their respected country.

There is a film currently out called "Munich". If you have watched the film, or know anything about the political aspects behind the games, you will know that Olympic Competition is the most important international sporting competition. So powerful infact that the games have been tied into international politics over the course of history. Assassinations, boycots, terrorism etc. The 1980 USA hockey team's victory over the Soviet Union was actually an important part of the Cold War. So don't say these games are a bunch of nothing. History has shown otherwise.

I would rather send a respecatble athlete who will attempt to win, and will lose with honor and dignity, than an excelent cocky athlete who takes the games as a joke, and focuses the competion around himself. Be cocky and compete for yourself in the world cup. Just not in the olympics.

-----------------------------------------

And just for the record... he and his coaches have admitted that he's skied under the influence much more than ONE TIME AFTER A WORLD CUP VICTORY. Here is the part of the transcript from the interview:

Does he think his partying has ever interfered with his performance?

"Definitely. There’s been times when I’ve been in really tough shape at the top of the course," says Miller.

"Talk about a hard challenge right there. I mean, if you ever tried to ski when you’re wasted, it’s not easy. Try and ski a slalom when the gates are," Miller says, making a hand motion. "You hit a gate less than every one a second, so it’s risky, you know. You’re putting your life at risk there. It’s like driving drunk only there’s no rules about it in ski racing."

Is he saying he'll never do it again?

"No. I’m not saying that," Miller says.

^ (This is the comment that kills me. he knows he is doing something wrong and dangerous... but he doesn't even care.)

Let's just hope we don't have a "Sonny Bode" or "Bode Bono". Not only is this risk to himself, but it also endangers others at the races. If I drive drunk at 30 mph and kill someone, I get a DUI and Vehicular Homicide. What if bode kills someone will skiing drunk at 90 mph. Don't even mention the waiver at the mountain. Waivers don't mean jack shit.

put it this way, i do not think that the US will kick him off the team, hes the best they have had in years and with the olympics comming up they want the medals

so for all of you that hate him, sorry but they aint going to kick this ass at all... its just a bunch of hype so that he will go out and get all the gold he can grab...

Compare Bode to Alberto Tomba, who is the greatest skier ever, and he hasnt done anything wrong. Tomba used to turn up in a Ferrari with 2 bitches under his arms 2 minutes before his raace started and still win. Did his sponsors drop him? no. Did the Italian ski team drop him? did they fuck. If the US drop him there a bunch of idiots.

Hes about the only US athlete anyone else likes anyway.

In the fridge is making all the right posts. Bode has been criticized his entire career because of his reckless attitude toward skiing, then he started winning so those criticisms went away, now CBS in trying to get ratings, puts out a press release a few days before airing the segment to generate buzz, and says Bode skis drunk, when actually he said, "there had been times when I was wasted at the start gate" some people take that to mean wasted=drunk, other more knowledgable people took it to mean exactly what it was, hungover. Bode parties, big deal, he has every right to, he's not hitting his flask before world cup races, he probably like a lot of people has a few beers at lunch while he is skiing for fun. Go to Europe, and see how many people don't have a few beers or cocktails at lunch while skiing, they'll be the minority, I'll guarantee you that.

And if you think Jordan, Babe Ruth or Wayne Gretzky never played hungover you're crazy. David Wells admitted he was half drunk from the night before when he pitched his no hitter.

I'm not a racer either, but how can you not respect Bode and Daron, most of you probably can't even hold an edge.

^ well said, I also like the Roberto Tomba comparo, that guy was unorthodox at the time and seemed to always be on the edge of falling or winning... the US is too conservative but no they won't drop him, this is the most publicity the US Ski Team has gotten... maybe ever, this is a publicity stunt to amp up ratings and watching of the Olympics, I will watch these races now because of it... this is similar to the bump comp 4 years ago
