no there's not really anything in between. if you really wanna be an editing ninja, take the time to figure out FCP and go through the tutorials and stuff. by the time you get good, you'll really appreciate how intuitive, quick, and easy the workflow is. FCP is the best, hands down.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.

yeah, just start filming and editing. Use the tutorials they help out alot.

SMILE, its the second best thing you can do with ur mouth

or leave it to the master haha just kidding theres a program at MPH in the summer thats where i learned

its such a sick program, and if you just use it for a little its really not that hard to understand

yea i taught myself at school how to do it. im no pro. but i can add effects, transistions anything really. i dont anything advanced like rotoscoping, or using color mattes(green screen stuff) but i can do pretty simple shit. its pretty hands on, user friendly.

You may want to try Final Cut Express. It weighs in somewhere between iMovie and FCP. There are heaps of good resources to help you get started with FCP. Try http://www.uemedia.com/CPC/2-pop/ for some help. Lots of good tutorials and knowledgable forum mediators. If you have any specific problems I may be able to help. contact me.
