anybody have any suggestions for somebody who is just starting to edit and doesnt plan on really going anywhere for it, but wants to make some edits and what not. like i have i movie, (since i have a mac) but i dont think it quiet cuts it.
i just opened it up to check it out ((my dad wont let me use/dl it to my mac book till i finsish my college essay) and the sound and effect instruction book is 700 pages. there are 2 other books too lol
It's not that hard just to cut some clips together and throw some music in there with some transitions, but using all of the features can get complicated.
it would be extremely foolish to seek adobe premiere when you have a perfectly good copy of final cut right in front of you. final cut dominates in that contest and is the industry standard for a reason. they make just about every movie shot with video instead of film on FCP. it's the tits. as for learning to use it, the simple work is just as easy as any other program, but the potential to do more is simply higher.
after FX is used a lot too, which is based off premier. avid is getting phased out cause of the user controls and how much of a pain it can be to use sometime, FCP is the clear favorite in this point in time, though premier actually gains popularity with each version they release because it is fairly easy to learn and use without sacrificing features.
search online for some "Mac Break TV" vids. I didnt use them for FCP, but i used some of there tutorial vids for learning some other programs and basic things that are good to know.
I learned with FCP by just playing with it day in day out, and i still learn new stuf every time i use it. So many things to learn. I would reccomend learning some basics then getting in there and getting dirty and using it as much as possible, thats truely the best way to learn things.
FCP and Premier are almost exactly the same, and once you start editing a few times, or at least 5-10 edits you will learn keyboard shortcuts (not sure about FCP but premier)...Overall you will learn young grass hopper. And don't read the super long manuals unless you have questions about certain features...unless you are getting serious about it.
i dont agree with your statement about not reading the manual.
While it will be timely and there are other methods to learning the software, if you take the time to read the manuals you will learn the programs inside and out. It will only make your editing that much better. Often when i'm bored i search the manual for random things and just do some easy reading to try out new techniques and concepts.
yeah final cut pro sn't that hard to use, once you got the basics... i find it verry friendl user and its professional. i use it for my job and the first time i saw the program running i was scared but i learned fast. when i learned i used a special keyboard with all the shortcuts on every button it makes the learning part wayyy easyer. you could get one for about 60$ on ebay.. good learning
spend $40 on a book from Barnes and nobles, spend a couple weekends and u will be able to edit just fine. My teacher in film school just had us go through the book, thats how i learned it and i know it very well now
It isn't worth the money, it takes a while to figure out whats really going on with it, before you can do more than drag and drop edits, so id stick with premiere, cuase its cheaper
