because it was built from the ground up to run on a mac. nobody ever did any development as far as porting it to run on a PC. however, since final cut now runs in a native OSX version and OSX is based off unix, you might be able to run eventually run a version of final cut on a unix machine sometime in the farrrr off future after the macs actually start shipping with the intel chips. until then, no you can't run it on a PC. and don't hold your breath, cuz "until then" is a real long time from now. sorry, it's a bitchin' program. maybe it's time to invest in a mac.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.

Thanks dude, thts all I needed to know, I already have a g4 with Final Cut Pro HD, and just got my grimy fingers on a HP and was just seein if I could put like Linux or something on there or find some loophole but I guess thats not gunna happen.

The answer to that is very simple. YES you absolutely can run final cut pro on a PC. there are a few ways. some that can be done right now and some that will be available shortly.

the problem: the first step is understanding why it wont run. processors have differnt architectures. AMD and Intel make x86 and x86-64 these are specific processors with many optimizations where as IBM makes the Power PC which is a general use processor. they handle code diferently and that is why cross platform programs must be made twice.

solution 1: Emulation. you would need to emulate a power PC and run mac on it infor (here: http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/windows/2005/01/18/PearPC.html)

the drawback to this is that the emulation takes alot of resources and it will run quite slowly if you do not have a powerful computer.

Solution 2: wait. Since the very first release of Mac OSX, Apple has been running Mac OSX on X86 processors and Steve recently anounced Apples plan to stop using power PC technology. they are switching over from IBM to Intel in fact right now there are over 1000 G5 boxes running on pentium 4s in developer's houses and offices. the first intel based Mac should be released end august (that is when Apple as their Paris expo which is where they unveiled the iMac G5 a year ago. when it is released you can bet that due to similar architectures people will be able to illegally port Mac apps over to PC.

now that said. Final Cut pro being nice and very very simple to use is not as powerful a tool as the Avid line of products. and I would recomend those for a PC or Mac User. I have used both and many features that have been in avid for years are only just now about to be available in Final Cut Pro 5

^ avid is a nice program but it wont integrate with the best program ever, that being Shake 3.2.3 Motion 2, DVD Studio Pro 4, Compressor 2, Cinema Tools 3, Apple Qmaster 2,and LiveType 2 aka the best production suite ever

Listen. Im sure tman is right and there technically is a way to get FCP to run on a pc. However its gona really shitty, glitchy and not worth it at all. Just DOWNLOAD PREMIER PRO 1.5 or 7.0. It's very similar to FCP, runs suprisingly well on low end systems, and has almost all the options FCP has. Definatly the best choice for a pc. I tried avid a long time ago but it ran so shitty and I didnt like the interface.

actually if you want to talk about best production suite ever I would once again have to go along with Avid.

Avid Xpress Studio is probably the most complete suite in the video editing industry.

http://www.avid.com/products/xpressStudio/

I have used both this suite and the one from Apple. and I vote for Avid's hands down.

yeah well a computer is just a tool. the OS doesnt matter what matters is the software running on them.

I use Mac, Windows, Linux, and have used SGi Operating system.

all cross platform programs look the same on all operating systems.

but people who want to be fanboys can do whatever.

but bottom line a computer is just a tool.
